When George Herbert Walker Bush was running for president he wore a short sleeve shirt with a suit. That's a huge fashion faux pas. Ailes told him he looked like a car salesperson.

(61,695 posts)because AC was cut back in govt offices to save energy. Wearing long sleeves in the summer and cranking up the AC in the office was considered un-American in private companies. But raygun came along and rescinded energy-saving regulations and efforts, IIRC.

(4,483 posts)as any man who wears a tie to work every day knows. Regardless of employer policy, a short-sleeved shirt is never proper wear with a suit. Never.
