General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI thought we were adults at DU. Can we stop with the "roast in Hell, Ailes" baby talk?
There is no hell, people. You know it, I know it.
There is no comfort to be had in imagining a shit like Ailes is suffering eternal damnation. He isn't. It's us who are suffering the hell he created here in the USA.
Believing that there is some kind of ultimate justice awaiting shits like Ailes is the kind of childish thinking that lets them get away with their crap while they are living. The only Justice out there is the justice that we as living human beings bring to bear on other living human beings.
Ailes was a criminal who got away with his criminality. While we can and should celebrate the fact that he's dead, we should leave it at that and skip the infantile idea that some supernatural being is visiting an eternity of torment on this bastard.

(36,108 posts)Honestly.. it's a saying more than anything that glad that asshole is dead.
And if someone does believe in hell - let them.

(2,955 posts)Stuff like this is why some people dislike atheists. It's fine that you don't believe, but why trash on the beliefs of many other people calling them childish and infantile?
stopbush
(24,396 posts)confess him as their lord and savior would burn in eternal hell fire? Ergo, those Xians who believe in hell because they believe that Jesus existed and said the things he supposedly said must believe that atheists are also destined for that same hell, no?
That is, unless they want to cherry pick what Jesus said...which may give them the out to say, nah, I don't believe atheists burn in hell, even though Jesus said they most definitely do. If you're going to ignore that pat of Jesus teaching, why not go all the way and just ignore the part about hell existing?
So. Are those beliefs childish and infantile, or are they something much, much worse?

(37,457 posts)I'm not big on pissing on graves but live and let live. Ailes died. Not gonna say anything further.

(30,151 posts)He was going to die a couple days beforehand we could have smacked him around a little bit until his death. That would be more fitting

No, I am happy he's frying in hell.

So how does that play against the current administration--all three branches?

(13,340 posts)He is directly responsible for much of the creation of the right wing propaganda machine that is doing our country immeasurable harm. I'm not a believer, so I think he's just gonna feed the worms (and probably kill them too), but if there IS a hell, I hope he finds himself cordially roasting in it.

(63,209 posts)In another thread I expressed the wish to fill his casket with dysentery shit and seal his corpse in with it for eternity (or as long as possible).
I'm with you in principle on the supernatural thing, but honestly it bothers me more when people invoke such empty phrases to express sympathy.
If they're rejoicing at the death of a horrible creature like Ailes, I'm content to let them express it however they wish.

(408 posts)but I do believe in an afterlife and karma and no scolding by you is going to change that. Sorry. You have every right not to believe in anything you can't see, but you don't have the right to shove it down my throat.
Otherwise, peace to you, friend.

(18,124 posts)what he represented and will continue to represent via his 'news channel' has damned us all to a lifetime of misery, defeat, stupidity and ignorance in people that wish me a heinous death. Hence we end up with an administration such as we have. NO ONE here has the right to judge another persons maturity based on glee that this POS is dead. I AM GLAD HE IS DEAD!!!! Wish he could die a thousand times in front of me. As I will be when david duke et al. are dead or dying.

We didn't want to waste a lot of time contemplating and many had told him to go there for years. If there is no hell, then there is no problem for Ailes. If there is, he'll have a grand reunion with his friends.

(9,117 posts)The older I get, the more I think many of us need catharsis when a detested, dishonorable antagonist snuffs it. Roger Ailes was neither a William F. Buckley nor an HL Mencken; he was apolitical propagandist that spread falsehoods, ruined people's lives, and gleefully used lies and rumors to debase American political discourse. Most of us are not saints and we're tired of the abuse from our tormentors; to celebrate Ailes' removal from political discourse is quite human and quite understandable.
