Snow in May - this is why I moved to Colorado from Florida! I'm loving this but no tornados, please. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm next door in KCMO and keeping an eye on this system. It's due here around 9/10 cst and expected to decrease in power. Luckily we've got cool northerly winds and out temps are cool so we're expecting t-storms with plenty of lightening and thunder but much less risk of tornadoes. Got dinner already done in case we lose power.

Kansas is not so lucky. Wichita DUers are in for a crappy afternoon/early evening and are the highest risk for severe weather.

but that was in part because we were just visiting. Or one single gust of wind on a calm, sunny day that zipped our RV in place one complete lane left at a right angle to our direction of travel. Didn't love that, but enjoyed driving along watching a sheet of rain fall directly to one side of our 4-lane highway while it and the other side were dry and sunny.

Now that I think of it, snow and tornadoes together don't seem that odd for Colorado.

Btw, extreme drought and fire danger here in Florida. Firefighters just put out a wildfire this afternoon on the other side of the mostly dried marsh surrounding us. Still wild and beautiful, but no longer capable of protecting us. Enjoy your beautiful snow.

As a native South Floridian who lived in Palm Beach County for 64 years, I weep for what's happened to the land in Florida. Development on the coast as well as the swamps have created an unnatural environment. I lived directly on the ocean for 20 years and miss the beach every day but not the bugs and rude special snowflakes, not to mention the enormous palmetto bugs that fly in your face when you try to kill them - haha!

I love Denver and find the people very warm and friendly. The natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains lives up to their reputation and stuns me every day. Very grateful to be here!

rise, flood, fall with nature. That has its plusses and minuses, but at least no air boats find their way in here, even when the ponds are high. And for some reason we have very few no-see-ems here. The red-shouldered hawk who nests in a giant live oak over our carport keeps that end of the property off limits these days, though.

But, hey, watch that snowflake stuff--you're talking to one. Seriously, from our point of view, ALL the rudest people we've met down here have been hostile anti-snowflakers spouting off about outsiders. Don't know what it is about my husband, but he seems to fit in wherever he goes and hears a lot of it. Of course, that his wife doesn't keep him dressed to churchy Georgia standards may have something to do with it. I let him go almost everywhere in quick-dry fishing clothes and favorite old billed caps.

and there's still some wildlife there but her yard is a swamp when it rains (every day).

Raised by a true Southern Belle Mother, I guess I just don't like people without manners. And they are everywhere.

Say hi to the Florida hawks for me!

Yesterday, I saw a herd of buffalo - whole new animal kingdom for me!

squeaking ferociously at something up there or monitoring her domain from a pine across a narrow part of the pond. If the patio on that side weren't covered, I don't think we'd be able to use it.

How wonderful. Last time I saw a herd of buffalo my (then) too-young-to-die husband was apparently interested in seeing how close he could get before they stomped him into jelly.
I lost it before whichever one the bull was had enough and he survived. We were on a dirt road far from everything in the middle of wilderness. I'd be happy to try it again from inside a truck, though.

We need to do a looong road trip. It's been way too long.

reminds me that one of the most striking differences between east and west is that in the east all the intriguing roads leading off highways, dirt or otherwise, are on private property and you're trespassing. They also usually don't go very far at all before they either end or you're on the private property of yet another owner.

Out west, whether the vast wilderness is private or, most oftenl, publicly owned doesn't even come to mind. I miss the freedom. I can't count all the wonderful places we've camped at the ends of or off lonely roads. I remember one little meadow by a creek out your way where the meadow was full of yellow flowers when we pulled up near dusk and blue flowers when I stepped out in the morning. I know now that the yellow flowers opened later, but then it was...magic!

This slushy snow is a killer. This is how it looked right before we went out to get things cleaned off a little. Too many kissing the ground to leave them on their own.

I'm lounging on the covered patio, 86 and very humid (extremely by CO standards) but at least with the usual breeze, watching a limpkin look for apple snails along the edge of the pond.

It's hard to gauge because it's so sloppy. The ground was already saturated due to all the hail yesterday. It's still coming down like crazy. What a great day to snuggle in my cozy bed with my sweet dog and not-so-sweet kitteh. This is why I love working shifts, days off. Everyone stay safe and watch out for falling limbs, even when you're driving. It happens.

It was a nice day down here in Lakewood. But we had hail on the 8th. Now we need new roofs all over this place.

Today is definitely a snuggling in day! I've got a good book at my elbow and plan to snuggle up where I can see outside and enjoy it, too.

We dodged the bullet on that one but I know Lakewood had it the worst. I saw photos from your area of an entire row of cars in a parking lot with rear windshields smashed out.

It was on the nat'l news. Larger than golf ball size. Not much else but roofing and some gutters got dinged here and there. So it'll be noisy for a few days and then we move on.

Enjoy your day!
