Funding for college work-study programs would be cut in half, public-service loan forgiveness would end and hundreds of millions of dollars that public schools could use for mental health, advanced coursework and other services would vanish under a Trump administration plan to cut $10.6 billion from federal education initiatives, according to budget documents obtained by The Washington Post.
The administration would channel part of the savings into its top priority: school choice. It seeks to spend about $400 million to expand charter schools and vouchers for private and religious schools, and another $1 billion to push public schools to adopt choice-friendly policies.
That $400 million gift isnt just about school choice. Its about using taxpayer dollars to fund religious indoctrination. In some voucher problems, like the one in Florida, taxpayers are funding the teaching of Creationism in science class, the idea that homosexuality is wrong, and corporal punishment.

(182,271 posts)The answer to every question is JESUS
I pull this on people who I know are cool from time to time who say "Can I ask you a question?"
Me: "Is the answer JESUS?"
Them: "No"
Me: "WRONG! The answers always Jesus!"
Using a Rev. Lovejoy voice makes it really funnier.

(16,949 posts)in any way, shape, or form to include talking about it, is wrong. Funding religious education which is unconstitutional is right. WTF!!! Beam me up Scotty...please...now would be good.

(63,221 posts)We just had someone leave our department to go work for Betsy DeVos as her Communications Director/Special Assistant. I don't know what she was thinking. She's a bright girl and I liked her, but she's young and a mid-western Republican. Hopefully she will become disillusioned after some time as a passenger on the Titanic. I really don't know how she plans to polish this turd, but she has her work cut out for her.
I will be interested to hear how she plans to spin this evil woman's agenda. I really can't believe she went over to the dark side.

(6,916 posts)DeVos isn't the Secretary of Education.
She is the Secretary of Generating Young GOP Voters.
The Secretary of Vote Buying to Cut Taxes On Billionaires.
No matter how dumb or weak America becomes in the process - she gets more money when public schools are weakened. That's why she donates to the GOP and to school charities.
Welcome to plutocracy!!

(6,916 posts)This is the DeVos / GOP donor agenda:
Defund public schools ( they educate kids, and teach them how the world works so they become liberal)
Move money to religious schools (they indoctrinate kids into the GOP agenda)
Generate more brainwashed GOP voters
Cut taxes on the rich
Take over America.
GOP donors are inches away from achieving their corrupt one-party uneducated America. Venezuela, or Russia, or North Korea all over again.
If we don't stop 45 and DeVos we can kiss America goodbye.
Resist. Be positive. Persist.

Given how those schools failed to teach this very rich woman anything at all, one wonders how long it will take people to put a stop to this, or if all the other religions should apply That will please them, won't it?
These guys forget that they're not the only religion in town and that other ones also have schools and would appreciate funds.
