The Con and his goons really tried to influence Comey and he has lots of memos.

My disgusting outburst is not aimed at you, 12, and I hope you know that!!? But all this fear of "his base", oh noes, "his base" will be mad etc etc...I mean, seriously, these wankers can barely organize a fish fry, much less a focused "attack" on the congress or this so-called administration or - whoever.
Like, the demonstrations for the Bundy boyz - 27 people and a guy on a horse? Or that Atlanta rally a few weeks back: 9 dudes, open carry, lookin tuff - ?? Wtf was that? Oh, and the planned nazi march in Montana (the Robert guy who kept getting punched in the face, his mom lives there, and was apparently dissed by locals) - well, they had to get a permit from the town to march, and they could not scrape together the required $125, and I will go look, but far as I know, this massive Montana nazi parade has never happened -
I guess I just don't unnerstand this fear of "the base, the base, run away, they gone be mad!!"
(end o' rant, sorry to be so crude, 12!)

He doesn't seem to be trusted by many - survivors often sell out.

(46,166 posts)But I imagine that he probably didn't trust Rosenstein, either. Even if this leaker wasn't close buddies with Comey, he wasn't afraid of crossing a line by talking to the press about this bombshell.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)I think Comey did give him permission to spill. Comey gets his story told from a trustworthy source who spoke with him throughout the several attempts by tRump to win his loyalty, and he manages to keep himself "at arms length". I expect some aides to drop a few memos to the press to back up Wittes' spill.
eleny
(46,166 posts)Since this conversation happened last Friday, before Mueller was assigned, it would have been important to start having Comey's side of all this to come out. One drop in a drip drip drip.
And maybe now that Mueller is involved it's a good thing that Wittes spoke out. If there's a clamp on events then we may have never heard this.
There's a lot of intrigue. I find myself with so many "what ifs" and such.

(12,448 posts)At 6'8" Comey is hard to hide. Apparently the hug was one-sided, Comey still trying to distance himself.
Hiding in the curtains to avoid a hug from a president. You can't make this shit up.
CottonBear
(21,596 posts)I watched the video clip where Trump spots Comey, who is hiding in the back next to the blue curtains. Trump calls him out by his first name so that Comey has to come out into the middle of the room. Trump then tries to hug Comey, who extends his hand first and rebuffs the hug. Comey then retreats back to the curtains
You could tell that Comey wanted no personal interaction with Trump.

(14,530 posts)He's taller than little hands trump. Which is funny as hell, seeing how trump uses his height to intimidate and bully people.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)but, there have been pictures of him next to people that are 6'1" and 6'2" and he looks shorter, and I doubt Trump is the type to slouch around other men. I think he's using his bulk and height combined.
mercuryblues
(14,530 posts)of trump with rMoney and Obama. both are 6'1" In a few pics he is slightly taller, others the same height or noticeably shorter. Does he wear lifts?

It's a good safeguard for him and with these thugs in control (for now), it's a wise move.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/18/us/politics/james-comey-memo-fbi-trump.html
Mr. Comey described all of his contacts with the president and the White House including the phone call from Mr. Trump in detailed memos he wrote at the time and gave to his aides.
Congressional investigators have requested copies of the memos, which, according to two people who have read them, provide snapshots of a fraught relationship between a president trying to win over and influence an F.B.I. director and someone who had built his reputation on asserting his independence, sometimes in a dramatic way.

There's a line between doing an ad for your show, and outright misleading people.
I want Trump gone as much as anyone but I'm not going to support media personalities that outright mislead people, regardless of their political bent.
Time for Rachel to get a job with the Democratic Party and stop pretending to be an objective news person.
one incident does not make someone lose ALL CREDIBILITY
Ms. Maddow does GREAT work.
