I'm going to confess I forgot about Comey and Mueller's roles in the W yrs

Now that my memory has been refreshed, I don't want Trump to resign, I want Mueller to nail his fucking ass to the wall and take everyone with him and I don't care how long it takes.

I'm sure this article from politico has been posted elsewhere but if you haven't read I truly recommend it.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/05/18/james-comey-trump-special-prosecutor-robert-mueller-fbi-215154

I'm old enough to remember the hot mess in the aftermath of 9/11 but apparently my white rage and disgust at W and Cheney blocked out everything else. I vaguely remember the rush to Ashcroft's hospital bed but I didn't realize it was because it was Comey in his role as Deputy AG who wasn't giving into W. My knowledge of Comey was just being pissed about the damn Hillary memo 11 days before the election. Now reading this article, reading how he stood up to W and Cheney, I do seriously believe he thought Hillary was going to win and he thought he was doing the right thing (in his mind).

Comey and Mueller are both the kind of people you want on your side, you want them investigating because they are thorough and fucking committed as hell to finding the truth.

I'm amazed at the overlap of people involved in Washington...it's like a small town where everyone knows everyone and has worked everywhere. This part of the article blew my mind:

"The week before, Comey had carefully walked his former colleague Preet Bharara—then counsel to Senator Chuck Schumer—through the 2004 episode for the first time. “The hair stood up on the back of my neck, because I realized what a significant story this was, and I was sworn to secrecy and nobody knew about it,” Bharara told the New Yorker years later. The three men—Comey, Schumer and Bharara—kept quiet about the revelations in advance. “I was afraid that if the story got out of what Jim was going to say, the Bush administration would figure out a way to prevent him from testifying,” Bharara recalled later. “We needed to preserve the element of surprise."

Comey knew then the importance of keeping things close to his chest - you damn well know he did the same with Trump. Comey had been concerned of a president interfering once before, there is no way he was unprepared for his firing.

I've been pretty bummed since November, but gaining insight to the some of the players now involved - I'm starting to feel some hope. Mueller truly believes in truth and justice and country before politics. I had given up hope that those people still existed. The fact that he had such reverence for the integrity of the FBI, his belief in the constitution and no doubt his loyalty to his colleagues.... Trump has basically shit on all of the things he holds dear. If Trump had two brain cells to rub together he would flee the country now, because he is going to get exposed for the fraud he is in a big public way.

There were both big and personal political maneuverings between the different power blocs, plus ambitious individuals like him, going on, and he was acting to protect his bloc and his own position. I know, this truncated version is the most widely disseminated and I read it early on and admired him for it, but unfortunately the whole story dashes the noble motive notions.

As for needing him, we. do. not. need. a. corrupt. unethical. FBI. director. Using his power to subvert a national election and throw it to the Republicans is a huge crime. Abuse of power, a complete betrayal of his duties to his position and his country. And if you read more about him, there are other actions that his peers worried indicated a growing unwillingness to conform to the constraints on his power.

This isn't just my notion. His actions regarding Hillary shocked dozens of others holding his kind of position into speaking out, beginning with the way he very inappropriately padded his announcement that she'd committed no crime with subjective criticism of State Department security practices. I didn't take that seriously, so all the letters to the editor, etc., expressing the surprise and dismay of people like state attorneys general and heads of state investigatory agencies at his behavior were eyeopening.

But as we know, that was absolutely nothing to what came next, his 3 additional highly inappropriate public actions, with which Hillary has publicly stated she believes he threw the presidency, and the Senate, to the Republicans.

And, of course, just last week, the AG's office, needing to be able to claim a legitimate reason for firing Comey, officially fired him for specifically these actions.

Hard to know what to think. I prefer hope.
It's easy to jump to the conclusion that everyone in powerful positions is corrupt.
