http://www.rawstory.com/2017/05/van-jones-the-campaign-trails-trumpzilla-has-become-whiny-president-snowflake-in-the-white-house/Whats interesting is a different Donald Trump, said Van Jones. When he ran, he was this tough guy. This guys gonna get things done, this great negotiator. He was Trumpzilla. He was going to make Washington bow down. He was gonna drain the swamp.
He continued, Now hes President Snowflake, okay? Everything he says is about, Oh, theyre mean to me and they dont like me and I just dont understand it and its not fair. So, you have a big brand shift going on.
EDIT:
Deleted that other one.

(4,483 posts)Maybe it's my age, but "sissy" was code for "homosexual" when I was growing up. Maybe that's no longer true, but I personally won't use the word. Even if you don't think it means gay, "sissy" means more than cowardly or even unmanly--it was often part of the phrase "sissy-girl" used to taunt boys who didn't measure up to the pack's definition of masculinity. There's a definite tinge of misogyny here.
"President Snowflake" otoh rings all my chimes.

(4,187 posts)I'm disgusted with the sexism here. It doesn't take much thought to realize that "sissy" is sexist, unless one believes women are the inferior sex. Thanks for speaking out.
The OP should be edited or deleted. It's offensive to women. People shouldn't have to be forced to see sexist language when they visit DU.
One of our problems is: that's what half the country thinks all democrats are - that word.

(4,187 posts)If you don't believe that being feminine is a bad thing, why do you think it's bad that half the country thinks Democts are feminine?
Secism is clearly one form of discrimination that too many liberals still think is perfectly acceptable. That's what this thread proves.

(4,483 posts)has been edited, but if I'm not mistaken, "sissy" was not the poster's expression, but a quotation. I don't blame the OP for accurately quoting someone else's misogyny; my objection was to the suggestion that we should adopt the phrase ourselves.
In fact, I think it's important for us at DU to be exposed to offensive language used in public speech. I'm kind of undecided about triggers, but personally, as a woman, I want to know what the fuckers are saying about us. The worse they get, I figure, the stronger I grow.

(4,187 posts)if we were talking about words that are offensive to other groups? The n-word, for example? Or words that denigrate Jewish people or homosexual people? Or is it only when it comes to women that words that denigrate, insult, and attempt to humiliate us are supposed ro make us stronger?
I don't care whether the word was in the original; it does not belong on DU. And I think you would see that if it were a word offensive to another group.
cyclonefence
(4,483 posts)but yes, I think if someone in a public position had used any kind of slur against any group, I would want to know about it. DU is a site I trust--people here reliably challenge sources, as do I, so I am secure in repeating information that is verified here. And I think it's important for people like you (and to a lesser extent me, only because my consciousness was late in being raised) to know about those slurs and make sure everyone here is alert to them.
I would imagine that "sissy" is a term that might be used even among fairly enlightened people who aren't really thinking about what they are saying, and that kind of casual sexism--like casual bigotry of any kind--is imho the most dangerous kind. We kind of had the same situation here, with the OP. Our calling attention to the offensive word got it removed, and maybe sensitized some people to the offensiveness of the term. A Teaching Moment, if you will, that would not have occurred if the offensive term had not appeared here at all.
I would go even further and say that it's our duty to report and call out offensive language, and the more offensive the language is, the more important it is that it be noticed, reported and reacted to.
