Spitballing: Remember the "Terrified Chris Christie with Donald Trump" thing during the election?

Remember right after Chris Christie endorsed Trump, and Trump was parading Christie around, treating him like his errand boy, and everything about Christie's body language seemed to scream he was being held against his will by Trump? How he had this absolutely dazed, nonplussed look on his face wherever he went?

Remember this picture?

Now, the following is just a theory. Maybe just sheer conjecture at this point. I don't have any evidence to support it yet, but with all that's coming out now about Russia, I don't think this is out of the realm of plausibility.

But what if....

....there was some sort of kompromat on Christie that the Russians had uncovered? We already knew he was knee-deep with the Bridgegate thing, so perhaps it might have related to that, or maybe something even worse.

And what if that kompromat was disclosed so that Christie would be forced to endorse Trump, and give him extra legitimacy that he didn't have before then?

Remember, Christie was the very first of Trump's former rivals to endorse him, and he endorsed him back when Trump was still very much in a battle with Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich.

The way Trump treated and essentially mocked Christie right after he endorsed him was insane. He basically treated him like his little toy and/or personal assistant, with very little regard to him personally.

And the body language can't be ignored. Everything about Christie's face in those appearances seems to scream that he was something who was caught up in something that he didn't want to be caught up in, but was having to do things against his will.

He looked absolutely terrified.

I have to seriously wonder if Christie wasn't being blackmailed for his support.

But I'm guessing that you're just seeing Christie's Resting Unhappy Face.

Look at how he keeps sniffing around for an admin post.

That look at the first campaign speech when he endorsed Trump = dazed and thinking "I was losing to this guy?"

Now that Bridgegate sentencing has happened, he has no political career outside of any crumps Trumpco might toss him.

is an opportunist and DT, for good or ill, looked like an opportunity to turn around the Governor's sagging NJ poll numbers and give him the national exposure he craved. If you recall, Republicans were begging Christie to run in 2012. Nancy Reagan begged him to run, said the country needed him. He demurred with what I can only speculate as a master plan: put together a massive war chest for the next election, grow his base as the Governor's Association Leader and prove that he could attract voters on both sides of the political divide. Plus, he probably believed Obama was a far more formidable candidate than the GOP was willing to admit. And, oh yes, lose weight so he wouldn't drop dead on the campaign trail.

The plan almost worked, but then . . .

Bridgegate and all the other accusations. Once he bombed out in the 2016 primary, DT was his road to redemption and a shot at the national scene. I'm a native of NJ. My friends and family from the state cannot wait for his exit. Personally, I have little sympathy for the man. He tied himself to a con artist. Birds of a feather . . . and all that.
