Montana writers, worried about public lands, to publish pro-Quist insert

With the May 25 special election to fill Montana’s open U.S. House seat heading into its final days, a group of environmentally minded writers from across the state has raised nearly $10,000 to distribute a newspaper insert endorsing Democratic candidate Rob Quist.

The 24-page paid insert, titled “We Take Our Stand,” includes contributions from 40 writers and public figures. It will be distributed to 35,000 subscribers Sunday in the Bozeman Chronicle, Kalispell-based Daily Inter Lake and Libby-based Western News, organizer Seabring Davis said this week.

It’s also available digitally at wetakeourstand.org.

Contributors, Davis said, are worried about Republican candidate Greg Gianforte’s commitment to what they consider a key issue for the state: preserving access to public lands. Given that, they see Quist as the better option.

“We can’t let a candidate enter into this open congressional seat with any leaning toward limiting public access,” she said.
