Anybody know of any articles, books, etc. that follow displaced workers

over decades?

I don't mean some scholarly article with a bunch of stats, but something that deals with a few individuals, say, in some city, who lost good-paying jobs and tells what the same people are doing 10/20/30 years later.

Just kidding. That would be a good story. I have started Once in a Great City. It doesn't follow individual families, and I don't know where it is going, but I hope to understand more about Detroit from listening to it.
