It wasn't a big surprise. Maher slammed West on a recent show so when he showed up as a guest last night, it was only a matter of time before they clashed. I get where Cornell is coming from with establishment Democrats but his hatred of Hillary is just mind boggling to me. He might as well be on the payroll for TYT.

His ego, arrogance, and hypocrisy are very predictable

(15,388 posts)I know David Frum has been a republican for ever (still is I assume) but I find it more interesting to listen to someone with a different world view when we agree on something (he voted for Hillary and hates Trump). I think he could give us some insight into how we might "reach" moderate right wingers. I agree the deplorables are a lost cause but at this point in time, Frum is more interesting than West and West wouldn't let him talk.
I hate everything about West. Haven't heard an intelligent thought from him in many years.

(3,022 posts)just gets more annoying and less relevant with every passing day. This well reminds me why I never watch his drivel. Now that he has hectored everyone to stop worshipping deities he's going to turn his mighty scold to making everyone vote properly. It's not that he's wrong regarding how bad Donald is, but that didn't win the election last time and it really isn't likely to turn the trick next time.

(11,142 posts)He has much more to complain about when Trump is president. So of course, he takes actions (such as supporting Jill Stein) that made a Trump presidency more likely, all so he has more to complain about on the other side.
He of course has the right to support whoever he wants. But why anyone distinguishes him from any Trump-supporting Republican is beyond me.

(228 posts)Talk about such pointless topics.
Six minutes on Hillary would of been better than Trump duh. Blah pointless babble not a single important point made.
The left media needs to focus on the corporate crime and the lies of the republicans. It needs to be an awakening and educating force not just pointless squabbling.
Our corporate media which Maher is a part of intentionally leaves people uninformed and arguing over unimportant topics.

(9,359 posts)Attempted to steer back towards that topic. Maher decided it was Hillary Vs Trump, not why cops shoot people of colour.
Small minds talk people. Great minds talk about the issue. I do agree with Maher on one point, when people take the job of protector of the peace, they should understand that the job comes with danger, and that they are putting the public's well being ahead of their own. I understood that when I joined the military, what I don't understand is where that belief became lost on future generations.

(46,179 posts)I prefer TYT to Maher and some others lauded here, so it's probably not surprising that I don't hate CW. I don't hate Maher, either; at times, I've appreciated his remarks, and at times I haven't. I agree with the "disaster" and "catastrophe" assessment. I'm listening now, and they aren't yelling yet, but so far, I agree with everything West is saying. If Maher really wanted a substantive conversation, he'd be talking about issues instead of re-hashing the election and a failed candidate. He's stirring the pot, trying to keep the party division live, and trying to push a party line excusing an inexcusable loss and deflecting blame.
Arguing over the votes of people in safe states instead of the problems in swing states; stealing, hiding, concealing...this is not one of Maher's better moments.

(10,173 posts)turned me off him completely. I don't need Cornel West to tell me what is obviously wrong about America - West never comes up with solutions, his arsenal consists mainly of ad hominem attacks. He's like a bull in the china shop of "establishment" politics, not caring who or what he tries to destroy. He gets TV appearances out of it so I guess it's all good.
