Dress code, series of events lead to honor roll student's suspension

Source: WHAS-TV (ABC)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A senior at Hickory Ridge High School worries her college future is in jeopardy, and it's all stemming from a shirt she wore.

...

Summer did not have a jacket, but a friend offered to loan her one.

"I pulled it up, put the jacket over it, zipped up the jacket," Summer says.

...

Summer says neither she nor the principal was able to reach her mother. The period ended and Summer accompanied dozens of her friends to the auditorium. Shortly after, she says the principal entered the room and ordered everyone to leave except for Summer.

"The SRO) was within five feet of me, he had his hand on his gun. [The principal] said 'I'm gonna give you an ultimatum. We have tried to call your mother. You either come with me to the control room to change your shirt or we will arrest you."

...

"It's just sad because I worked so hard for four years to walk across that stage," she says. "We have drug dealers walking across that stage, we have sex offenders walking across that stage and then the 4.4 student who showed her shoulders can't."

The senior is an honor roll student with a 4.4 GPA. She has a full scholarship to a major university. The official cause for suspension according to the letter sent home was "insubordination".

Her shoulders are technically covered.

7. There is. Read it. This is a principal on a power trip.

We need more people like this girl.

2. But see, the principal could see that she had breasts.

That's not allowed, until after high school.

School motto: "If you have breasts, you risk arrests."

4. It wasn't the half bare shoulders that upset the principal

Let's face it, we all know that she is a large-busted young woman, and that particular shirt with the hem tucked into her pants, made her breasts appear more prominent. If she had pulled out her shirt hem from her pants, her breasts would have appeared less prominent.

And what the hell is the principal doing by looking at her breasts? It's not like she was wearing a shirt with a low neckline that showed her cleavage? Goodness, so many other things that the principal could have done, rather than suspend her. He could have not seen her shirt as a problem. He could have sent her to his office to work on her homework or read a textbook.

This incident is just another form of slut-shaming a young woman, who did nothing other than innocently arouse the dirty mind of her principal. I hope her parents file a complaint with the school board.

5. The principal probably had on his polyester suit

his egg stained tie and his comb-over in place. Who was there to call his mother?

8. Called a scholarship.

Her parents should be suing the shit out of the district. School administrators abuse discretionary powers. These are the same idiots who over discipline kids over PopTart guns.

10. Body shaming can be harmful to someone this age.

And it caused her a great deal of humiliation in front of her peers in what should have been one of the proudest and most memorable moments of her life. I hope the adults who caused this chain of events are held accountable and that the principal is made to deliver an apology in front of the entire student body. And the charge of insubordination is laughingly weak. It only means someone had the temerity to disagree with her. And if the principal were to experience a moment of honesty, would she admit she is jealous of the girl's 4.4 GPA and her level of achievement?

13. The "issue" here is not her shoulders, it's the size of her breasts.

She has large breasts. God help us all if she wears a shirt that highlights that. How could we possibly continue our normal daily functions?

Sorry, Ms. Principal, some women are large-breasted and there's nothing wrong with that. And these women most certainly don't need to be held to a different standard of dressing due to their breast size.

They're boobs, lady, not WMD's. Get a freaking grip.

Oh, and by the way, the off-shoulder thing is very popular this year, so you'll be seeing this type of shirt again. Are you planning on suspending all girls who wear it?

15. Large breasts are very difficult to conceal in summer clothes..

Maybe they should require breasts above a B cup be ace bandaged to their chest....That is, until a future employer wants them out....

14. Teaching attracts bullies. Bullies are pitiful cowards who take out their anger on the weak.

When they encounter a child who is not weak, they flip. Saw this over and over in school. Am betting that if we cleared out the bullying teachers, kids would be less likely to bully, too.

17. The school was right to act as it did

Otherwise, the young woman's shoulders might have caused untold carnage and bloodshed.

Seriously:
