At the last minute, the United States canceled — for logistical reasons — a festive dinner in Jerusalem at the King David Hotel scheduled for Monday night between Israeli and American officials.

The delegations were set to be headed by Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

The more private dinner between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump along with their wives, Sara and Melania, will still be held as scheduled.

6. President Trump is on his way to Israel

May 2017

Prime Minister Netanyahu has scheduled a big dinner for the president. Earlier this weekend, Netanyahu found out that a whole bunch of his ministers suddenly remembered they had to wash their hair that night and couldn't make it for dinner with Trump. Netanyahu, wanting desperately not to have to be alone with Trump, explained to his ministers that attending the dinner was not optional.

It now appears that nobody wants to have dinner with Trump when he comes to town. Kind of embarrassing for both countries.

Israel: Netanyahu says all government ministers must attend Trump's arrival

Jerusalem (CNN)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded his government ministers attend the arrival ceremony of US President Donald Trump on Monday morning after several of them said they were going to skip it, according to the office of one of the ministers.

The minister's office, which spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the visit, told CNN that a number of ministers intended to skip the arrival ceremony at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport because it is expected to be brief.

Trump is expected to shake only the hands of Netanyahu and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

When Netanyahu realized the number of ministerial no-shows, he made attendance mandatory, the minister's office told CNN.

JERUSALEM — Unlike the royal pomp and ceremony with which President Trump was greeted over the weekend in Saudi Arabia, the plans for his arrival on Monday in Israel had devolved into an unseemly political ruckus before Air Force One touched down.

An infuriated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to order his ministers to attend the airport welcome ceremony, the Hebrew daily newspaper Haaretz reported, after he learned that most of them were planning to skip it because there was no time scheduled for Mr. Trump to shake their hands on the tarmac.

Mr. Netanyahu also had to wrestle much of Sunday in a closed cabinet meeting with right-wing ministers of his coalition to win approval of even modest gestures meant to encourage the Palestinian economy and ease conditions in the West Bank and elsewhere.'>>>
