Trump's not doing well on this extended international trip. He got seriously exhausted in Saudi Arabia and had to cancel at least one event. He's 70 years old. I'm 71, and probably like Trump, take a couple of blood pressure medications, including a beta blocker. I can do everything I used to do, but not for as long and not with as much energy.
But, I'm not obese, I eat well, stay hydrated, and I'm physically active throughout the day. Still, between jet lag, not enough sleep, crappy food and plenty of pressure to perform, Trump is seriously not bearing up well so far. Worse he's not in complete control of what he may have to do from time to time.
One of the most difficult age-related and medication related things for me is standing still in one place for long periods of time. What Trump is facing this week is a lot of doing just that. When I do that, it's not uncommon for me to feel faint, due to blood pooling in my lower body. The beta blocker slows the heart rate and keeps blood pressure lower. The combination produces predictable results. I've learned that at the first sign of light-headedness to stop just standing there and move around to get the blood circulating better, or sit down for a few minutes. That works, but may be impractical for Trump on a number of occasions.
So, keep an eye on the old guy. Watch for him to get a little pale looking, a little wobbly, and a little more clumsy with words. When you see that, start counting, because he's close to going down. Giving a speech, standing in a photo op line with other world leaders, and other situations are hazardous for him on this trip.
I'm betting he drops at some point during the trip. He'll recover, but will need to leave and rest for a while. I put the probability of this happening at about 75% this week. Watch. He doesn't have the STAMINA for this trip.

(146,284 posts)a bit of congestive heart failure. And that's not helped by the blood pressure meds he's almost certainly taking. It's likely to all add up to a fainting spell during this trip. He can't control what he's doing and is likely to find himself in a situation that leads to poor circulation. He may also not properly hydrate himself. That's very likely, too, and can contribute to the problem.

(2,533 posts)standing. His posture. Lots of things. I think that spray on tan is hiding a very poor coloring he doesn't want the world to know about because it ages him.

(146,284 posts)after his speech in S.A. His limo and coterie were on their way to it, when they suddenly changed their route and returned to his hotel. Ivanka filled in for him at that appearance. He clearly wasn't coping well with the jet lag and efforts at the first appearance, and appeared to get short of breath during his speech.

(685 posts)I thought he was doing ok.. oh well
MineralMan
(146,284 posts)He may recover from the jet lag somewhat, but the underlying poor health is going to show up as the week goes on. He's going to be a busy guy for the next few days, with little chance for long rest periods. He also won't be eating well, and probably won't maintain good hydration, either.

For the record, I would personally not stoop to that level. But that shouldn't stop us from pointing out that they did.

(146,284 posts)like politicians, deliberately avoid drinking too much, to avoid the need to leave and visit the toilet. They are trying to maximize their public time, and don't want to leave a situation, especially at a crucial moment.
So, they're more likely to become dehydrated and have problems with that. Worse, the high levels of pressure and stress tend to increase heart rate, etc. One of the most prominent side effects of beta blockers is a lowering of the pulse rate and a tendency to lower blood pressure more than is wanted. That is affected by the hydration issue and stress, as well.
I'm sure Trump is on a beta blocker, and I'm equally sure that he tries to avoid trips to the toilet during meetings and the like. So...that adds to his risk of a fainting spell in public.

(11,910 posts)peak months in the ER. She said that's just about the time that not drinking enough during the summer months catches up to people. I know that I've had 3 kidney stones over the years, and hubby has had 1 - both happened in late November. Not that I would ever wish that on someone - even Trump. It is pure hell, and I'm sitting here right now with a 7mm stone that I believe might be on the move (been getting twinges lately).
MineralMan
(146,284 posts)I probably drink too much fluid during the day. But, I'd rather do that than get a kidney stone.
I had one fainting occurrence a few years ago, by the way. I had driven for eleven hours to make a trip to a mineral show in Tucson with only one day's driving. So, I was trying to avoid stops along the way. I did not stay hydrated well enough, and skipped a meal during that time. So, I got to my hotel and went to the hotel's restaurant and bar. I ordered an adult beverage. I didn't think about being dehydrated and the effect alcohol might have on me. I woke up on the floor with a couple of paramedics beside me. I was fine, and explained what had happened, which they understood and didn't insist that I get checked out. I had a couple of big glasses of orange juice and a burger and was fine.
Dehydration will do you, if you're not paying attention.

(9,694 posts)water and will most definitely make a correction on this. Did not realize it had to be water and am deadly afraid of ever getting a kidney stone. My ex-husband had a couple and said it was the worse pain he had ever suffered. Thank you MM..
MineralMan
(146,284 posts)It is a mild diuretic, but keeping things flowing in that area does help keep the stones away. I'm not sure that green tea isn't a good thing, but I don't know for sure.

(20,235 posts)alternating with drinking juice. You can water down the juice if it's too 'cranberry-ish' by adding some sparkling h2o. Nevertheless, WATER is thee best hydration. I heard tho, purified h2o is better than spring h2o which contains various minerals no doubt that can build up and create urinary probs like stones.
