(5,477 posts)I'm a founding member/owner of a local brewery co-op.
We had our monthly 'Brewer's Table' last week where we discuss and taste what we're getting ready to serve, and come up with new ideas. Someone mentioned that one particular variety of hops gave the beer we were tasting a distinct 'peach' flavor.
I recommended that we do an Imperial Pale, and with this peach flavor and a little touch of mint, the name would have to be 'Impeach-mint'.
We're trying to work up a recipe now.

(40,416 posts)And no raspberries either in anything called beer. I would say no fruit of any kind. Beer is made from grains, not fucking jelly! And no mint or any other kind of similar flavoring. One might as well start making fucking beer ice cream floats.
A hops with a note of peach? Maybe I could appreciate it, as long as there is no actual peach in it.
And please no mint!!!

(40,416 posts)And no beer with raspberry should be called good.
Sorry. Fruit just does not belong in beer.
Might as well scoop ice cream into it.
Yuck!

(5,477 posts)I take it you're not a big fan of Framboise, peche lambic, or any of the other historically-brewed beers. There are a huge number of recognized beer styles; not all are to everyone's taste. Many contain fruit, or use yeasts that deliver a fruity undertone (sometimes, VERY fruity). I like some infusions, and am not a big fan of others, but understand that each person has their own palate, and remain open to the idea that a wide range of styles is a good thing, overall, for the brewing industry. Over the past decade or so there has been a LOT of experimentation with new and different flavors.
I didn't care for the idea of fruit-infused beers until I had a few that really knocked it out of the park. They can sometimes be tricky to get right, but when they do - WOW!
I've opened up and expanded my taste horizons over the past several years. Remember - there are still a lot people out there that think that anything beyond Bud/Miller/PBR is an abomination. One friend really dislikes anything that has a strong hoppy flavor, and others that manage to squeeze every bit of flavor out of every hop cone they encounter. We've had a grapefruit-infused IPA on tap before. I took one sip and really disliked it, but other folks that came in couldn't get enough of it. I didn't order it, but enough others did that it was a staple we had on tap for quite a while.
I figure, live and let live. The more beer, the better!

(40,416 posts)I find US beers to be fucking like water. My tastes include stronger, more flavorful brews, like those from Europe and the British Isles.
Some of my faves:
Czech Pilsner, a rather delightful refreshing brew.
India Pale Ale, lots of hops flavor in an amber ale.
Porter, a dark, rich malt ale. One of my faves!
Stout, a dark, rich, hoppy brew!!
Good old British dark ale. Malty and Smooth as silk.
French brews are a bit sweet for my taste, but I have enjoyed them on occasion. Belgium brews are great, but I confess to not having completely acquired that taste. Nevertheless, I very willingly would tread down that road if given the opportunity. I am rather adventuresome in my beer tastes. Just keep the damned raspberries away. Cannot stand raspberries. Such a flavor rather clashes with brews. Beer should have a bitterness from the hops. Raspberries are tart. Bitter and tart together is just plain jarring to my taste.
But you are undoubtedly correct. Ones taste is in ones mouth. I will raise a glass to yours, if you will do the same for mine. I wish I had a pint of Hobgoblin Ale. I hope that you'll be fine if I raise a glass of old vine California Zinfandel instead.
Skäl!
My best to you. Bottoms up!

They were incredible.
Also, fruit has a centuries long relationship with beer. Lambics, for instance. Certain citrus fruits blend nicely with IPA (I've found mango and grapefruit to be quite tasty).
