Attorneys for Michael Flynn say that a daily escalating public frenzy against him and the Justice Departments appointment of a special counsel have created a legally dangerous environment for him to cooperate with a Senate investigation.
Thats according to a letter obtained by The Associated Press that was written on behalf of the former national security adviser under President Donald Trump. The letter, sent Monday by Flynns legal team to the Senate Intelligence Committee, lays out the case for Flynn to invoke his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination and his decision not to produce documents in response to a congressional subpoena.
The letter says that the current context of the Senates investigation into Russias meddling in the 2016 election threatens that any testimony he provides could be used against him.
Flynns decision comes less than two weeks after the committee issued a subpoena for Flynns documents as part of the panels investigation into Russias meddling in the 2016 election.

(255 posts)The Fifth Amendment does not protect you against being forced to provide evidence that might create a "public frenzy."
Nice try Flynn, but we know the meaning of the word "incriminate."

(11,728 posts)Only testimony that he gives that reveals activities of potentially criminal nature would be used against you, you fool. Like your buddy Donald said, "People who take the 5th are guilty". What is it you right wingers are so fond of saying? "If you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't care if anyone is investigating you". The public has no power to enact legal enforcement procedures against you. You are not testifying to the mob, you are testifying to the Senate, which are a majority of your buddies.
Finally, what is raising the concerns and ire of the public is not your testimony it is the continuing revelations of just how deeply you are tied to Russia, Turkey, and who knows what other foreign governments and how you lied to basically everyone about those ties while you were taking one of the highest national security jobs in the nation. You are the idiot who riled up stupid Trump supporters against Hillary Clinton over a server and emails that had no impact whatsoever on our national security. You actively lied about working for a foreign government while working as the National Security Advisor. You lied to Congress and you lied to the FBI. Now you are being a coward and taking the 5th when Hillary Clinton testified in front of Congress for 11 hours about a bs made up scandal.
That is what is escalating public opinion against you. Sit down and answer questions and maybe that will assuage our concerns. I doubt you will because you are a coward.
