British police says responding to serious incident at venue where Ariana Grande performing

By Alistair Smout | LONDON

British police said on Monday they had responded to a serious incident at a venue in the northern English city of Manchester where U.S. singer Ariana Grande had been performing.

"Emergency services responding to serious incident at Manchester Arena," Greater Manchester Police said. "Avoid the area."

Witnesses reported hearing a huge bang at the venue, Sky News said on Monday.

A video posted on Twitter showed fans screaming and running inside the venue.

Reuters was not immediately able to verify the reports on social media.

Britain is on its second-highest alert level of "severe" meaning an attack by militants is considered highly likely.

Same link, different story from when I read it. When I posted, there was nothing about fatalities. This situation is changing by the minute.

Several people have been killed after two explosions inside Manchester Arena at the end of an Ariana Grande gig tonight.
Video footage showed people fleeing in tears from the venue after bangs rang out immediately after the concert finished.
Bloodied concertgoers were pictured being helped by emergency services outside the gig and armed police were seen patrolling the arena.
Evie Brewster, who attended the concert, told MailOnline: 'Ariana Grange had just finished her last song and left the stage when a huge explosion sounded.
'Suddenly everybody started screaming and running for the exit.

Erin McDougle, 20, from Newcastle said: “There was a loud bang at the end of the concert. The lights were already on so we knew it wasn’t part of the show. At first we thought it was a bomb. There was a lot of smoke. People started running out. When we got outside the arena there were dozens of police vans and quite a few ambulances.

A group of young men from Sheffield said they had seen at least five people covered in blood and others being carried out by bouncers. “Ariane Grande had just gone behind the curtain and the lights came up when there was this massive bang and a big cloud of smoke. I saw five people with blood all down them,” said one.

Sophie Tedd, 25, from Darlington, said the noise and smoke seemed to come from the tiered seating stage right. “We were sitting on that side then suddenly there was this big bang in the block next to us. Everyone started screaming and we nearly got trampled on. There was a burning smell.”
