Donald Trump to America: Please impeach me

Jill Lawrence, USA Today

Donald Trump is doing an excellent impression of a president who desperately wishes to be impeached. Congress should grant that wish, or figure out an even quicker way to bring this tragicomedy to its inevitable end. If there aren’t enough smoking guns quite yet, just wait a day or two. They're coming at us faster than rounds from a Kalashnikov on full auto.

Could Trump's signals be any more clear? He's not even having fun. "No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly," Trump said at the Coast Guard Academy commencement. That was just a few hours before Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein named former FBI director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to oversee the FBI's Russia investigation, and a day before Trump tweeted that "this is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!"
Suffice it to say the job is only going to get less fun.Given all we know about Trump himself — the disturbing real time glimpses into his mind via Twitter; his Tourette-like tendency to blurt out exactly what most presidents would know they shouldn’t; his relentless ignorance of policy, government and our nation's founding principles — we shouldn’t be shocked by recent developments.

No one but a person hunting for an escape hatch would admit in a national TV interview that he was thinking about the “made-up” Russia story when he fired FBI Director James Comey; would ask Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Mike Flynn's contacts with Russia, possibly violating his oath of office; and would ask Comey to pledge loyalty to him, even though FBI directors have 10-year terms precisely so they can operate independently of presidents.

Only a president eyeing the door would summon the ghost of Richard Nixon by firing Comey and then tweeting: “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” Only someone intent on getting ousted would fire Comey over Russia and then the very next day meet with top Russian officials in the Oval Office under a painting of George Washington, let their photographer in while barring the U.S. press, share with them highly classified information about ISIS, describe Comey to them as a "nut job," and confide that firing him took the pressure off. (Each part of that sentence beggars belief.)

It's not doing wonders for his "brand," either.

So he's trying to execute "Trump Plan B" -- extract what you can, walk away, and leave the other investors to clean up the mess.

No one really expected him to win.

He was just trying to raise his profile to make more money.

Russia was just trying to cripple President Hillary Clinton so she would be able to do nothing.

Trump doesn't have the attention span for such long-term planning, but Putin seeded the Republican Party with dark money from top to bottom from coast to coast FOR THE WIN. Few things are more telling than the republican stonewall re the Supreme Court. They gambled because they knew, participated in, and encouraged Putin's strategy to undermine the democratic process.

This was no fluke.

I don't know why more people don't talk about here at DU. I think most of us are all for it, just rather talk about the symptoms than the root cause. It is why we have health care problem, lack of talk even about Climate Change, poor public education... Also, Trump is a big ass symptom!!!

and the only way to make him a loser after he's out of office is for the media to completely and totally ignore him and his pampered family. Ostracize all of them. No matter what they say or do, put them on permanent ignore. They are not and never have been newsworthy..............except to idiot RWNJ's.

That dude can rationalize anything.
"I know a bad deal when I see one and this is a bad deal. We need to reform the process... blah blah blah. Call me when you are ready for some real change."

Six weeks later: "Trump organization moves operations to Sochi. Family will live in dacha recently purchased from Vladimir Putin, with other residences in Moscow and Vladivostok also recently acquired through various trump owned entities."

....he loves playing the victim, as in "I'm being treated unfairly". That's one of their favorite mantras.

And the invocation of "tapes" is not meaningful to him because he's more ignorant than a sack of hammers and has no knowledge of history. He's too much of a dumpfkoff to understand the ramifications of what he's saying.

partly because he seems to be a true believer. There is also a big difference between him and Trump. Trump has the ability to suck up all the media attention with a tweet or an outrageous statement. He's a media trainwreck - they can't stop watching him in hopes of catching his next blowup or outrage.

With Pence, he's a complete 180 - bland and boring. Some in the media might actually look at his policies and how deplorable they are for Americans because they won't be hanging on every tweet. Plus, he'll likely be under investigation for covering up the Russia contacts as well, so will be a fatally wounded lame duck hobbling his way to January 19, 2021.

and whining about wanting to resign, is early stage dementia, imo. He's getting more and more confused. With the confusion comes fear and panic, especially in such a demanding position. He is waaaay over his head and is still aware enough to know he can't fake things forever.

Tue May 23, 2017, 11:25 AM

He sold his soul for this--even if he didn't realize it. He is so far into Russia that if he quits, his life, as he knows it, will be over. It may anyway. But his only hope is that somehow the investigation falls apart. That is his only chance. If he can survive, his brand will recover. He can get beat in 2020 (even get primaried) and still go down in history as the outsider who beat all of the insiders.

But he can't quit. And he knows it.

His brand is shot to hell now.

Who will want the name Trump on anything.

They will have to change the name of the brand.

He is between a rock and a hard place.

His old life is gone.

He can see how President Obama is treated and knows he can never have that respect.

I am on the wrong thread, but just now I got to read the McClatchey article about Flynn, I am shocked, it is regarding the Raqqa plan, agreed before Obama left office, to be put in place by the next pres, and stalled by Flynn for Turkey after receiving $500,000.00 from them.
