My daughter did 2 study abroad trips to Italy, each one included trips to the Vatican and their art/book conservation laboratories. They were required to have shoulders and knees covered for all visits, head coverings were only required for certain areas.

I was raised Catholic but have never been to the Vatican and don't know about its rules. I recall being a kid and the women wearing hats, veils or just doilies on their heads. Then some time when I was still a child, we were relieved of that requirement! And were allowed to have guitar masses rather than organ! Oh, the scandal! I can remember older people of then, I guess late 60s, being utterly scandalized about that.

I remain unconvinced that she speaks several languages "fluently," judging only by what I've heard of her English. I know, I know, Europeans typically are fluent in several languages--but I know Finns and Norwegians and Spanish and Dutch people and Russians and Ukrainians and folks from the Middle and Far East, many of whom have not lived in the US as long as Melania has, who are indeed fluent in English. It is my opinion, and only mine, that Melania is not fluent in English, and I am therefore suspicious of claims that she is fluent in any language other than her native tongue.

My feeling has nothing to do with politics; it has to do with my bullshitometer.

Jackie Kennedy was fluent in French. I know this because I saw her have substantial, involved conversations, in French, with Charles DeGaulle. If someone shows me Melania having a sustained conversation with the Pope in Italian, I will retract and apologize.

and you'll see that first, the Pope says something to her (in, I assume, Italian--or maybe Spanish ); Melania looks blank; a *translator* pops up from behind the Pope and you can hear him say, "He's asking you what you feed him."

Your honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case. Melania is not fluent in Italian. I believe now, in fact, that she is not even vaguely comfortable in Italian--I mean, if she knew any Italian, surely a word or two would have been familiar to her. I'm not fluent in French, but I know that if a Frenchman asked me what I fed my husband, I'd have *some* idea of what he was saying (actually, I am pretty fluent, and I'd understand that perfectly) and react with a smile at least. Melania had no idea of what the Pope was talking about, and it's clear to me that the Pope had been informed of her soi-disant multilingualism, or he would have had the translator there ahead of time.

It was a charming thing for the Pope whom I love to have said.

It's yeast dough, rolled flat, sprinkled with ground walnuts and sugar (and maybe raisins), rolled up and baked. Sometimes the roll is one long piece, a strudel. Sometimes the roll gets bent into a circle, like the Potizza.

You will find cake-recipes similar to this from Austria ("Nuss-Strudel&quot to Iran ("Koloocheh&quot .
