White House, ethics office feud escalates

White House, ethics office feud escalates
By Jonathan Easley - 05/24/17 06:00 AM EDT

An escalating feud between the White House and the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) has boiled over, with the Trump administration refusing to produce waivers it has granted to lobbyists that allow them to work in government agencies.

Walter Shaub, the office’s director, wants to review the waivers and make them public to ensure the Trump administration is adhering to publicly stated policies and an executive order signed by the president.

That would bring the Trump administration in line with practices followed under former President Barack Obama, who appointed Shaub to his current role.

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney is refusing to turn over the waivers. He wants time to consult with the Justice Department about the scope of Shaub’s authority.

In a letter to Shaub, which Mulvaney distributed widely throughout the government, the budget director called the request burdensome and questioned whether the OGE had the power to obtain the waivers. Republicans have in the past bristled at Shaub’s tactics and believe he is politicizing his office.

Shaub went public on Monday with the administration’s refusal to turn the waivers over.

In a blistering 10-page letter sent to Congress and Mulvaney — and subsequently tweeted out through the official OGE account — Shaub told Mulvaney that he has the authority to “institute corrective action proceedings” against individuals who “improperly prevent” ethics officials from doing their jobs.

“OGE declines your request to suspend its ethics inquiry and reiterates its expectation that agencies will fully comply with its directive by June 1, 2017,” Shaub wrote. “Public confidence in the integrity of government decision-making demands no less.”

They get that Ted Bundy like gleam in their beady greedy sociopathic eyes when talking about making elderly and disabled people suffer and die by booting them off health care and taking away the meager disability payments to force those cancer patients and grandma to get to work! Meanwhile these parasites live off the public dime with the finest health care and benefits available. They've never done an honest days work in their wretched lives. They exert themselves only when on their knees for the wealthy interests who pull their puppet strings. They are pure evil incarnate.

That went out the door long ago. Wave $$$ in front of a repub. and they will do ANYTHING to keep their jobs. As we have seen, even selling the presidency to a fool and a tool of Putin.

Will be to give this office real investigative and unassailable legal powers to demand this information and like an inspector general refer clear conflict of interest situations and ethics violations for criminal prosecution. As it stands this office is doing a heroic job in the face of epic levels of criminal corruption staring it in the face but it lacks the tools to fully rectify such violations. So a legal overhaul giving this clear authority is definitely in order and should be a part of our congressional campaign pledge to restore integrity and respect to the federal government and ensure that a lawless criminal President can never abuse his power in this manner again.

ANYone or anyTHING connected to President Obama is being steamrolled into oblivion. That is what is driving Trump ... his irrational hatred of President Obama. I think it's connected to that WH Correspondent's dinner a few years back when Obama dissed Trump. You could see it in Trump's face ... the pure hatred and anger.

So buh-bye Shaub. When Trump returns, you're fired.
