Pence planning to hold rally in Louisiana

An advisory from the Louisiana GOP says that Pence is headlining the event at Cajun industries in Port Allen, just outside of Baton Rouge, where he’s also slated to hold a roundtable with small business leaders.

Louisiana GOP chairman Roger Villere said the rally is being organized by Pence’s office and will be held in a nearby warehouse that holds “a few hundred people.” He described it as “not really a political rally as much as it is a rally for jobs and businesses.”

Pence is expected to fly to the event on Air Force Two, accompanied by Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) and the local congressman, Rep. Garret Graves. According to the Louisiana GOP, other members of the congressional delegation and Republican state officials have been invited, but it’s unclear if they’re planning to attend.

Bo Staples, executive director of the Louisiana GOP, said the party is “providing volunteers and turning out a crowd” but that the event is largely being handled by Pence’s team.
