All Kansans know Brownbacks experiment failed. Dramatically cutting business taxes while raising other taxes for consumers did virtually nothing to increase employment relative to other states.
It did leave state lawmakers struggling to cover massive budget deficits work that continues even now and wont end for another generation.
But tax cuts were only one half of the Brownback experiment. Aided by conservatives in the Legislature, Kansas eviscerated the states social safety net: privatizing Medicaid, imposing new restrictions on welfare benefits, insisting on a tough food stamp work requirement.

(18,641 posts)Republicans there still talk about it being wonderful for the economy and increasing taxes a sure way to destroy the economy.
No amount of reality or suffering will ever convince them otherwise.
Kansas is only an example to Republicans of a tremendous success.

(12,051 posts)act like it. They're still voting for Republicans. In fact, the Kansas experiment was a historic success -- for rich Republicans, who learned that 1) propaganda works so well that even direct evidence won't turn their ignorant voters against them; and 2) Kansas businesses are perfectly happy to destroy themselves for a few quarters more of positive cash flow.
