The Democratic party NEEDS a new strategy in order to defeat these Republicans in these red state races. What they have been doing DOES NOT WORK. The DCCC and the DNC need to change or we will continue to lose. We cannot rest on our laurels and consider ourselves morally better and hope / expect the electorate to realize such. Something has to change or we will be voted out of existence.

2. I don't have any, I was just making an observation.

I am not a political strategist, I was just pointing out what I observed over the last few elections. I don't consider a close loss a win. Even if we lose by one vote, we still lose.

4. I agree with you, but DNC and mainstream Democrats are sacrosanct here.

It would be beneficial to have a discussion about how the Democratic Party and DNC could adjust tactics to win more elections, but any criticism, or even hint of criticism, isn't tolerated by many of the posters here.

Many including me have warned that criticizing and demonizing the Democratic Party will result in losses. We lost an election in a red area that in my opinion we never had a chance...the real chance is in Georgia. So blaming the DNC will not help. Was Quist a good choice for the state? I don't know. And primarying sitting Democrats is a bad move.

This was closer that it should have been... with a candidate who fit the state better, we might have won.

10. Republicans put millions into the race...which they never needed to do before

A state that voted at 21% for Trump just voted 6% more for the Republican. That is significant gap closing. Some of these far right districts will never be won by a Democrat. But if we can narrow the gap this much in a deep red district, look what we can do in 25 to 30 more even districts in 2018.

11. Democrats need to be for Democratic candidates, not against Republican candidates.

As we saw in Montana, that only activates Republicans to get to the polls. It gives them a reason to vote. The reporter from the Guardian did not help the Democratic candidate, he hurt him. Republicans have nothing to vote for. Why help them?

12. Exactly.

We cannot merely be the non-monster in the race anymore because most of America outside of California and New York are deeply conservative. Running a campaign saying that the candidate is against the values of the Republican is tantamount to saying the Democrats are against the values of the voters themselves. We need to show voters how we will help them not what we are against.


I am not saying that is what happened in this case, I am just saying it in general.
