Der Spiegel: A Danger to the World It's Time to Get Rid of Donald Trump

A Danger to the World
It's Time to Get Rid of Donald Trump
Donald Trump has transformed the United States into a laughing stock and he is a danger to the world. He must be removed from the White House before things get even worse.

© DER SPIEGEL A DER SPIEGEL Editorial by Klaus Brinkbäumer

..............

Nothing is as it should be in this White House. Everyone working there has been compromised multiple times and now they all despise each other - and everyone except for Trump despises Trump. Because of all that, after just 120 days of the Trump administration, we are witness to an American tragedy for which there are five theoretical solutions.

The first is Trump's resignation, which won't happen. The second is that Republicans in the House and Senate support impeachment, which would be justified by the president's proven obstruction of justice, but won't happen because of the Republicans' thirst for power, which they won't willingly give up. The third possible solution is the invocation of the 25th Amendment, which would require the cabinet to declare Trump unfit to discharge the powers of the presidency. That isn't particularly likely either. Fourth: The Democrats get ready to fight and win back majorities in the House and Senate in midterm elections, which are 18 months away, before they then pursue option two, impeachment. Fifth: the international community wakes up and finds a way to circumvent the White House and free itself of its dependence on the U.S. Unlike the preceding four options, the fifth doesn't directly solve the Trump problem, but it is nevertheless necessary - and possible.

No Goals and No Strategy

Not quite two weeks ago, a number of experts and politicians focused on foreign policy met in Washington at the invitation of the Munich Security Conference. It wasn't difficult to sense the atmosphere of chaos and agony that has descended upon the city.

............

In "Game of Thrones," the Mad King was murdered (and the child that later took his place was no better). In real life, an immature boy sits on the throne of the most important country in the world. He could, at any time, issue a catastrophic order that would immediately be carried out. That is why the parents cannot afford to take their eyes off him even for a second. They cannot succumb to exhaustion because he is so taxing. They ultimately have to send him to his room - and return power to the grownups.

the demeanor of their leaders, good or bad, since they somehow got elected. And here we are with tRump.

"Fifth: the international community wakes up and finds a way to circumvent the White House and free itself of its dependence on the U.S. Unlike the preceding four options, the fifth doesn't directly solve the Trump problem, but it is nevertheless necessary - and possible. "

Hence, by default, the ass in the WH will possibly discredit many citizens internationally by mere presence.

the US has already been down-graded in that regard. The moment Trump was nominated our reputation took a hit internationally.

we were American. They said, ALL Americans like Trump and wouldn't believe our shocked and vehement denials. Of course, they were total asses and probably get all their news from Murdoch.

After that, we started telling folks we were from Canada. Didn't need the drama.

set the bar high, but tRump can not even get close to that bar, let alone reach it. If ANY member of the gop would be honest (not likely) they would admit that tRump is a resounding disgrace and a failure. The democratic party will have one HELL of a mess to clean up once the voters regain their sanity and realize the gop is a party of greedy selfish people.

The der Speigel article provides damning evidence that the U.S. is beginning to lose its leadership role in the world. China and Russia are eager to step into the void left by a buffoon without any notion of effective policy and a GOP leadership eager to hold on to power at any cost to the country. We Democrats are placing our hopes for a reprieve on the 2018 midterms and the notion of taking back the House and perhaps the Senate. I am not very confident that we will be able to do so. The Montana election, with a less than appealing Republican candidate, shows that Republicans do not seem to care that their leaders in Congress are dismantling healthcare and will try their best to destroy Medicaid and Social Security. By continuing to vote Republican, they are voting to cut taxes for the very wealthy. After all the town halls and the media exposure of such harmful policies, the fact that Republican voters continue to send Republicans to Congress mystifies me.

In addition, we never truly investigated the ways in which the Republican Party may have manipulated votes in Michigan and Wisconsin. Through voter ID laws, possible illegal tampering with votes (is it really probable that 80,000 or so voters in Detroit really did not choose a presidential candidate?), and extreme purging of voter rolls, do we really expect Republicans to not do everything they can in 2018 to maintain their power? We have an uphill battle just to have a fair election. Democrats will need to vote in overwhelming numbers in 2018 if we expect to gain either the House or the Senate.

Notice how unreasonably hostile he was to our actual allies, and how deferential he is to actual dictators and despots? All done at Putin's demand for Putin's reasons. Drumpf just thinks he's going to be able to cash in from them, I really doubt his party will be able to remove sanctions when he's under suspicion of colluding with this for this purpose in the first place. Of course, this is just the beginning and with his autocratic tendencies and dislike of the constitution and courts, who knows what he'll do and what the Repugs will go along with? Destroying America's healthcare system and causing the poor and elderly to die from inability to get healthcare due to extreme cost increases is just the start of the horrible things they will do.

How would they do that? I hope Obama is talking to them behind the scenes.
