MONTANA - GOP outspent Dems 800%, lost 5% of their base - Thanks trump.

Last edited Fri May 26, 2017, 10:20 AM - Edit history (1)

Everyone should send Donnie a nice little Thank You note.
Encourage him to keep it up for at least two more months before quitting.
Gianforte will soon enough be facing voters who all know he's a complete asshole.
About half of Montana's votes were cast when Gianforte assaulted and battered reporter Ben Jacobs.

Total votes 377,465. Republicans spent $14.81 per vote cast, or $29.51 per Republican vote.

GIANFORTE 189,473, ROB QUIST 166,483, MARK L WICKS 21,509

Trump won Montana by 20%, Gianforte by less than one-third that percentage.

This is really good news, especially when it is clear that many of those early voting ballots still weren't cast for Gianforte.

As a bonus, no one contests the validity of the election, ie., missing votes, insecure computers, etc.

....that 7 out of 10 votes had already been cast prior to the incident.

See GOP, early voting and mail in balloting can be a good thing.

Shows even more that it wasn't the candidate's fault. We have not held this seat since 1997, and with the exception of that county SE of Billings, progress was made. Quiet may have been a political novice, but he set the right tone for a candidate in that state IMO.

One area that needs work is turnout. I wonder how the reservation turned out this time. They can swing Montana elections blue.

More people need to realize that our elections are being bought right in front of our faces.. The party that commits to cleaning this up will be rewarded in future elections.. and we all know where the Repubs fall on that equation..

I fear that us lowly peasants at the bottom of the wrung have been so overwhelmingly distracted by intra-party as well as left-right dynamic that gains to take control back from TPB are next to impossible at this point..

I see no evidence people are clamoring for political purity in terms of money. If that is what you mean...and Dems have always been for campaign finance reform. But, we have no way of changing anything until we win back congress and the presidency.

might be a better description, for sure, and not confusing.

I like the spent amount per vote for each party instead. Republicans spent $29.51 per Republican vote, Dems $3.49 = about 7.5 times more per vote.

I mean this isn't horseshoes. You need to win. Literally the fate of the country hangs in the balance and close loses don't cut it.
