To be fair (don't know why I should), I really didn't like a lot of things that Hillary wore, but they still weren't nearly as ugly as this flower bed Melania wore.

Still, I guess she can wear what she wants, but I don't know why she would feel compelled to wear something SO over the top on this trip. It seems sort of insensitive to me, but then everything that family does is insensitive so it's not surprising.

a mature woman with a figure like the rest of us have, who needed to always project authority and seriousness, and who also always needed to project that she was approachable and one of us.

She was threading a needle in those clothes. I think that they were, though not great fashion, perfectly engineered to convey all of the contradictory things she needed her clothes to convey.

This coat of Melania's looks like the bad bathing caps my grandmother used to wear. It's disgusting in looks and disgusting in the message it sends.

I liked the more fitted ones. I thought the one she wore to the convention was elegant and perfect for the occasion. I wasn't a fan of the tweedy jackets with the fringe. But she didn't ask me what she should wear, and it didn't matter anyway. I admire her greatly, no matter what she wears.

to create clothing for her figure.. Her jackets were always too long..and the color choices were a bit off.. She has a decent shape for a woman her age, and the choices she made always made her look frumpy (with a few exceptions)

The jacket itself is a really simple shape and just freeform rosettes tacked on all over. Personally, I think it way too busy, but I'm not a rufflely sort of person, so... But if you used fabric scraps you already have for the rosettes and just bought the material for the jacket and lining, you could probably bring this thing in for under $30. Of course, it goes without saying that you're going to be sewing rosettes for days.

I wear my hair in a braid, haven't worn heels in years and I carry things in an embroidered cotton bag, from India, that I've had, for years. It's probably the fanciest accessory I own.

Find me the spouse of a head of state that shows up to official functions like this one, for an official photo no less, wearing some Target off the rack. Hate her because she exposes her son to Shit Gibbon. Hate her for her money first values. But this? She's beautiful in most people's book and she carries herself well unlike her baboon of a "husband".

I'm glad she dressed up, just like Michele Obama, Laura Bush and the classiest, Jackie O.

and make fabric cabbage roses to sew all over it. Or you can go to a gallery in Santa Fe specializing in wearable art and get something similar (but probably better) for about a tenth the price. Just be aware that this kind of thing is really heavy (as in weight) and fatiguing to wear for any period of time. Yes, I've tried it on, thinking I'd duplicate it in a slightly more restrained fashion, and gave up the idea as my shoulders slumped under the sheer poundage.

IOW, she can have it and that's not sour grapes on my part. Even the price isn't galling since D&G very likely gave it to her to wear for the publicity and she'll likely return it.

What is galling is that trophy wives of plutocrats will pay that much for this stuff. The fact that it's near the median income for a family in the US goes right over their pretty little heads.

No economy as topheavy as this one can survive for long.

Only Trump had to be so ostentatious.

appropriate for an event like the Met Gala. For a day of sightseeing with the other spouses, it came off as Melania looking to upstage everyone else and make herself the center of all the buzz. That is alway tacky, and it made the choice tres gauche, despite the high pricetag. There is also a whiff of the scene in Pretty Woman when Richard Gere took Julia Roberts to Rodeo Drive and bought her some expensive clothes.

The White House is putting out a budget that would bring suffering to millions of Americans. Melania emerging from a car in $51,000 jacket was beyond clueless.
