(856 posts)Lawrence tweeted: "I've been @ Harvard graduation this week covering the Zuckerberg presidential campaign. Return to @TheLastWord tonight live from Boston 10 pm". No statement about contract.

(253 posts)Maybe I'm reading the Tea Leaves the wrong way, but I think the deafening silence is a very bad sign. If MSNBC wanted Lawrence to stay on, I think it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes for a deal to be struck -- and we would have heard about it . But it's obvious that's not happening.
I will not watch Brian Williams, or anyone else for that matter, in the 10pm slot. I am also tending toward a decision to simply not watch MSNBC at all if Lawrence is not renewed.

(34,438 posts)...I think there is a good chance that they will announce a deal at the very last minute. MSNBC may well want to make a deal but not at the price Lawrence would command if they showed their hand. I think he does have other options (because he said he would tell us where we could watch him if his contract was not renewed--I believe him, though this may be a negotiation tactic). So both sides may be pushing hard for a favorable bargain.
I hope he has an agent like Bebe Glazer:

(34,136 posts)Lawrence had tweeted that he would be somewhere on June 5 even if it was not on MSNBC. June 5 is a Monday, so if he is dumped by MSNBC he might announce his leaving on the previous Friday, June 2. Or if the negotiations are bitter, he may just not be on their programming on June 5 and all us fans will have to hunt for where he will be posting his commentary.

(13,524 posts)- not that outrageous an event on DU, I guess, but I'm glad he's an only-one-name-needed icon, even if it's "just" on DU!
In my house, we only have to say "Rachel" or "Lawrence" and we both know who we're talking about.
Everybody else needs a last name.

Russian ambassador told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret communications channel with Kremlin
By Ellen Nakashima, Adam Entous and Greg Miller May 26 at 7:01 PM
Jared Kushner and Russias ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trumps transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.
