GREENVILLE, S.C. —

Two South Carolina men are being charged for the harassment of an alligator after photos were posted on social media showing the men pouring beer into the reptile’s mouth, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said.

The photos originally appeared on SnapChat, SCDNR Public Information Director Kyndel McConchie said. Once shared on Snapchat, people saved the images to their own devices and shared them on Facebook, McConchie said.

DNR says it was notified of the incident through email and social media.

McConchie says the animal is clearly not being handled properly, as the photos show the gator's neck being tightly squeezed. One photo shows smoke being blown into the gator's mouth.
