Memorial day weekend is upon us and a number of us will have to be surrounded by Trump supporters. With this comes with the feeling of having to hold your tongue and not offend Trump supporters with what they hate most "facts". So in the past I would avoid the politics issue (for the most part), but I cannot sit by and allow this to happen anymore. For some reason unknown to me, Republican supporters are always allowed to bring up their political views any time any where but liberals are always pressured to "keep it down so you don't upset the idiots".
So today I will be stuck in close proximity to Trump supporters all day. If politics are brought up, I am not going to shy away from the facts anymore. I am done hand holding Republicans just so I do not upset them with what they fear most, the facts. So for those of you stuck in the same situation I am in I wish you the best of luck and hope your day goes well.

(103 posts)I know that I will not see eye to eye with everyone politically, I accept that. I have a problem when I'm basically being told to "shut up so the idiots don't get upset". That's an attack on my first amendment rights and I refuse to compromise my integrity by remaining silent.

(10,252 posts)Say something like "I'm not too keen on men who brag about grabbing women by the pussy." Then there's always, "For a guy who's had several bankruptcies and stiffed his employees on their rightful earnings, seems hypocritical to complain to NATO countries about paying their dues."
Then finish with "Such hypocrites really piss me off. How about you? Do you hate hypocrites too?"
If they defend Trump, or deny facts, or say "Obama/Hillary does it too." You can counter with, "Gee I'm disappointed. I always thought you were a good and fair person, and too smart to fall for such an obvious lying con man."

(103 posts)All I have to say to them is "quoting a college dropout doesn't help your argument" and then the yelling starts lol.

(193 posts)On the rare occasion that I am out and in close proximity to trumpers ( strangers or known) maybe at a bar, I will usually reply with something simple like "F#$K Trump, he is a scumbag" and then continue whatever conversation I was having before overhearing. Often this shuts down the trumper immediately. I think my being so blunt throws them off their game. If they choose to engage I get more offensive with my feelings and facts about 45.
I think I often look for confrontations.. maybe I need help with that?

(103 posts)A lot of them try to intimidate you and shout you down, but that bullying tactic doesn't work with me (I'm six feet tall, 220 pound former hockey enforcer, and I box) so when conservatives yell or threaten me I usually have a good laugh.
What I am getting at is this, you are too smart to lower yourself to their level. You're a productive member of society and not a detriment like 45 is.

(14,811 posts)When I hear someone start spewing I just laugh in their face. You can't argue reality with those who won't accept it.

Of course, I've had tons of practice. I lived full time in Las Vegas as a sports bettor for 25 years. That community is overwhelmingly white and right wing. Often we'd stand for an hour or more in Sunday night or Monday morning lottery lines waiting for the new batch of betting odds to come out. You wanted to be as close to the front as possible to grab the value numbers, ones that would be wiped out within minutes. During fall in election years you can imagine what we would be talking about in those lottery lines. I was almost always the only liberal, or at least the only one willing and eager to participate in the oral duel. Some of my friends loved it when a winger newcomer would start to spout off and did it within my presence. Let's just say he didn't fare well. Tantrums galore.
Of course, several of those guys called me to chirp on election night last year. They still haven't let go of all the times I got the best of them. But I did profit from one of them, quite accidentally. While he was mocking Hillary during the phone call I off hand mentioned that she was still going to win the popular vote by one million votes or more. I knew I was being quite conservative. Meanwhile he laughed and laughed, to the point he proposed a wager. After all, if Trump is winning now that's going to attach everywhere, right?
Unbelievable. He helped pay for my trip that began the next morning, and actually extended it. I had no intention of stopping in Charleston for several days without the bonus cash.
I spent the money long before he paid. But I was never concerned that he would pay. Simplistic Angry Males (SAMs) may be right wing and mostly stupid. They are honorable.

(103 posts)I can only imagine the look on his when he had to pay you. In my field conservatives are few in numbers but sadly the "alt-right " idiots are growing in numbers.

I don't thinks facts matter one bit to Trumpies.
sad.

(103 posts)That's what they call facts. They respond to anything the don't like with anger. I can't love my life being that angry and that stupid all the time.

(1,306 posts)while eating at a local resturant. They were loudly talking about the "daily trump bashing" in the news.
As they were leaving their tip and getting up to leave, I got up from my table, calmly walked over to them and said, "trump is a traitor, so is his entire campaign staff, and at this point, with what it known and proven fact, so is each and every single person who still supports the son of a bitch"
They harrumphed and left without another word.
Didn't accomplish much, but it sure made me feel good.

(103 posts)Right wing idiots in restaurants never cease to amaze me with their idiocy. A conservative couple was sitting acros the room at a table from me in the local Coney Island, complained about immigrants and how hard work should be rewarded. The waitress at the restaurant was working a double because they were under staffed. How did this couple reward her? By stiffing her on the tip, just two jerks is what that couple is.
