If there could be a "leader of the free world", there would be no free world.

Merkel is a significant world leader, but the structure of the EU requires that she can't even be its leader, much less the leader of the non-EU states.

I never, ever bought the idea that the American president was the "leader of the free world". Always thought it was ridiculous to say that.
