I can't believe that I am arguing with reps about whether the frigging Russians are our friends. Russia is not even a real country anymore. Just a bunch of thugs , mobsters, and thieves stealing the wealth of a dead empire and sowing chaos around the world.
I do not think any American citizens should be allowed to do business with them, and all political contact should be transparent and bent toward weakening and discrediting them.
We spent 50 years and trillions of dollars breaking them economically and now we have an administration that would not only take the boot off thier necks but actively help them reemerge on the world stage.
Traitors all. The time is coming to stretch some necks here at home and bitch slap a post communist dystopia back into the dust of history.

(1,462 posts)You may get bashed by a few for mentioning stretching necks for treason. I wholly agree that hanging these traitors in the middle of Times Square would be appropriate. I don't want to waste my tax dollars feeding and sheltering these traitors.

Simplistic solutions don't work.

(1,462 posts)Does your post count make you a better American than me? Hmm? Does your knowledge of history and the law surpass the lowly "noob?" Bigotry of the OP? Thou doeth protest too much. You sir are intolerant of the OPs "belief" that treason should still be punishable by death. You leave me to believe that one's opinion is not tolerated in your utopian message board world. Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day. Am I allowed to wish you a happy day, or do I need 5k posts and 2 years?

(48,959 posts)Prejudice and bigotry, such as exhibited by the OP's condemnation of an entire people, is against the DU Terms of Service. It is no different from blanket condemnations of any other group. We have had an influx of people registering after tRump's inauguration and there is a pattern of disruption on social media.

Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is a diverse community which includes people of every race, sex, religious belief (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, gender identity, body type, disability, age, etc. We want to promote a welcoming atmosphere for all of our members, and do not want to provide a platform for bigotry.{/excerpt}

(1,462 posts)I did not mention anything about the ops feelings regarding Russians or any other group. Thanks for posting the rules that I have already read and agreed to.
You still haven't answered as to why my low post count/join date gives you the right to question my usefulness to this forum and the Democratic Party in general. I have noticed a very cliquish environment that exists here among certain posters. New people are often times jumped on and accused of being trolls or worse. I understand a certain amount of wariness for a new member, but it is a little over the top and borderline paranoia at times.
Bottom line is that it is not very welcoming and rather off putting. I don't understand the obsession with post counts. it is also very stalkerish to think that you spend time checking people's profile and post count. Whatever...have a great day and enjoy your family when you take a break from checking post counts.

(48,959 posts)As to your question, I did answer it upthread.
Despite multiple chances to condemn the prejudice against the people of a country (Russia), a similar prejudice to tRump's ban against muslim countries, you have not condemned it.
So, your endorsement of it stands, as when you wrote "Great post" upthread.

(32,587 posts)I believe there are some legitimate refugees from Russia and the former Soviet Union, who've come here seeking asylum and they truly mean to stay here and be good citizens.
However there are bunches of other Russians who are looking to launder money and make phony "investments" that turn out to be nothing but campaign contributions under another name. They're spying on us and reporting straight back to Putin. Also there are "deep cover" agents (immigrants) who have been living here quietly for a long time, but will be activated to work for Putin eventually.
How are these people vetted, and verified before they get into our country? I used to believe there was such a thing as vetting until I learned that the Kushners are out there selling "golden visas" to their buddies in formerly communist countries.
Oh really? That has to end immediately.

When that's done with, we go after the oligarchs and through them Putin.Seizures, forfeitures, disinvestment, isolation ... . We will crush them.

Yup, let's bring it back.

Alexander Litvinenko and Sergei Magnitsky were also Russians.

Blanket bans are bigoted and prejudiced. Period.
Prejudice is "pre-judging". Don't indulge in it here on DU, please.

I do not wish to see he and his family (and my daughter) persecuted for a government he abhors. He can tell you what life under Putin and the previous autocrats was/is like.
He cannot stand Donald Trump and blames the propaganda which he says is much like Russia. Fox News is much like Tass of the 70's.

(1,109 posts)I think it is clear that i was referring to the kleptocracy that runs Russia nnowadays and the criminals that come here and build criminal syndicates. Say it is disgusting all you want. But my country is worth fighting for and I would be willing to do more than scour forums looking to take offense on behalf of hypothetical people in order to preserve it.
Make no mistake. As with Trump, there is a sizable fraction of assholes in Russia that support these monsters.
But I take no offense at your outrage and welcome a lively debate. I was born in 1969. I see what the Russians are. I see it very well.

(81,404 posts)It's the weapon behind Putin's disinformation and destabilization campaign. The more famous thieves and looters may already be covered by EU/US sanctions, but there is a whole layer below them that operate under the radar, and it is difficult to inhibit their actions unless drastic measures are taken e.g. expel Russia from SWIFT which is practically the world's banking system.
"Regular" Russians pose a threat to no one. It's Putin and the oligarchy.
(FWIW Should we lift sanctions against named Russian entities and industry sectors because there are good people working in them? No.)
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,959 posts)Then you went on to make a blanket statement about ALL Russians ("just a bunch of" : "Russia is not even a real country anymore. Just a bunch of thugs , mobsters, and thieves stealing the wealth of a dead empire and sowing chaos around the world."
Then you doubled down:
"Traitors all"
You were clear in your prejudice. If you were only talking about one group then you would not have condemned all the people in the country.
Most Russians are not thugs. A very few Russians are thugs.
Most Russians are not mobsters. A very few Russians are mobsters.
Prejudging a whole people on the basis of a very few is no different from prejudging muslims on the basis of Daesh.
