Then again if we shipped the blovius-ex-chief off to the USSR I wouldn't expect to see him emerge alive. He's done his bit of bidding.

Putin's probably laughing at this.

He's done so much more to influence Western elections - courting US Christian and sexist and racist groups, paying protestors, the Calexit movement, Breitbart, Twitter trolls, Facebook trolls, hacking DNC, hacking DCCC, hacking voter rolls, probably paying US politicians, etc etc.

The comment from Macron is the tip of the iceberg of the Russian information war on the West. Putin's probably laughing to himself while he thinks of the whole rest of the iceberg that isn't being mentioned.

Most Christians are not paying attention while Christian hard-right extremists are allying themselves with Putin- including christo-fascists like Pence and his group.
Putin invites them to Russia and tells them what they want to hear.

The NY Mag article below is good, but the Politico, Salon, and FT (login required) articles are worth reading too.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/02/how-russia-became-a-leader-of-the-worldwide-christian-right-214755
Despite Putin’s rank kleptocracy, and the threat Moscow suddenly posed to stability throughout Europe, Buchanan blushed with praise for Putin’s policies, writing, “In the culture war for the future of mankind, Putin is planting Russia’s flag firmly on the side of traditional Christianity."

"Calexit Russia" is another good search.
And the Facebook/Twitter troll armies are pretty well known by now - 2015/2016 Daily Beast and NYer articles cover them well.

Yep, the willfully ignorant and other assorted GOP lovers and lemmings used to call the French "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" because they didn't jump at joining bush/cheney's "Coalition of the Wilting" (it's really "Coalition of the Willing" but I regard it a bit differently) during the run-up to the Iraq War, and continued to question it afterwards. Which led some GOPers in the House of Reps to order the Congressional cafeteria to change French fries to the colossally step and embarrassing "Freedom Fries" - in "protest".
