(46,155 posts)Knowing Sirota and his brand of clickbait-journalism, my guess is he's got something wrong.

(397 posts)Yes guessed. Ok. Nothing to see here folks. Emulatorloo guesses that Sirota made it all up. I'm glad we got this all cleared up.

(46,155 posts)Booker did not 'defend' Kushner as Sirota claimed.

'Sen Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said that it's too soon to revoke White House adviser Jared Kushner's security clearance.
Booker said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday there should be a full investigation into a report that Trump's son-in-law tried to set up a direct backchannel of communication between Trump's transition team and the Kremlin.
When CNN's Dana Bash asked Booker if he was joining the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in its call to revoke Kushner's clearance, he said an investigation needs to take place first.
"I think we need to first get to the bottom of it, he needs to answer for what was happening at the time," Booker said. "It raises very serious concerns for me and that could be a potential outcome that I seek."'
It's useful and honest and include full quotations.

(397 posts)He doesn't want to revoke his clearance. And he's taken money from the Kushners. There is nothing fake about this story. This also lines up perfectly with everything else we know about Booker. He's been on the side of Betsy DeVos' charter school plan, of the pharmaceutical industry, anti-universal healthcare, and on the side of wall street and Bain Capital. He's never been on our side. We should be extremely cautious of this guy getting anywhere close to the 2020 nomination.

(46,155 posts)Leave it. Doesn't bother me, snark probably adds to the conversation.
Just note that we DU'ers can talk about how bad Booker is or the veracity of Sirota's journalism without snarky attack on one another.

(11,504 posts)Booker didn't defend Kushner. But Sirota obviously knows that, and doesn't care.
After he's done attacking Booker, maybe he can go back to defending Trump on Russia.

(11,504 posts)I want Trump, Kushner, etc. to go down as much as anyone, but rushing forward without getting all your ducks in a row only increases the chances of those efforts failing, which would be a disaster that only serves to harden their grip on power. That's all Booker was saying.
And thanks for posting what he really said.

(1,462 posts)I'm a huge fan of Corey Booker, and this would really be demoralizing if true.

(46,155 posts)It's typical for Sirota to pull stuff like this imho.

Answer your question, no this is not true. Booker is only calling for the fax to come in before drawing conclusions. He's a cautious and responsible politician.
On the other hand, you're starting to see which journalists you cannot trust anymore.
Thx and I agree it is a sad deal to go to such lengths to try to dupe people. :

(10,173 posts)does this also have something to do with post modernism - where there are facts, the person says words, the words are easily understood, words that are reasonable, but a false narrative is weaved out of what they said and deemed to be the "truth"? This trend of "journalism" in certain quarters is worrying to me. I'm mindful journalism was never perfect but still.. Sirota's angle is like creating "truth" from his own conjecture.

(55,334 posts)Your take makes perfect sense. Maybe as we get older, some of us become more rational and more interested in due process than in the D vs R tribalism.
Booker's sin in sirota's reporting seems to be insufficient purity of bias over rule of law. It's kind of sad when reporters fall into that trap.
It's also curious to me because as far as I know, Sirota isn't keen on Russiagate.

(110,261 posts)He said there should be an investigation first, which doesn't sound outrageous to me.
Isn't that how we do things in America?

(51,134 posts)Of course, the inference is obvious but I doubt it is true. Booker can hang Kushner in a New Jersey minute with an investigation.

(110,261 posts)44K doesn't tell us anything about Kushner in particular -- just that the PEOPLE who work for Kushner's company gave that amount IN TOTAL.
And the 2009 donation was donated by Kushner to a Committee for several candidates, including Booker and multiple others.
So Sirota's posting is deliberately misleading.
ON EDIT: Jared Kushner has a long history of giving to multiple Democrats. According to Wikipedia, he had been a "lifelong Democrat" before he became involved with DT's campaign.

(10,749 posts)It sure seems like Booker is backing off and that seems unlike him. He's almost always out in front of the fight. But not now. Gotta ask why. This is going to hurt his image. Better we're reminded of this now rather than in 2019.

Booker said Kushner should be investigated. Which makes sense. Politicians making statements about security clearances on the basis of news articles are engaging in grandstanding.

(2,897 posts)Also, weren't we just complaining about the lack of funds directed to certain races? Looks like Booker got proactive and used his star power to build his campaign warchest. Kushner was a wealthy Democrat then, I don't see the issue w/ taking his money.

(6,330 posts)I really can't believe my eyes that people here are actually supporting a wait for an investigation when the charge is credibly sourced. Multiple undisclosed meetings as well. No, we should not need an investigation to suspend his clearance and Booker looks complicit if he sits on the fence after taking money from them. Anybody else and I bet no one would have his back, so to speak. He may not be defending him, but Booker seems to have a perception problem and should acknowledge his liabilities in promoting policy. And the crap about not rushing to impeach?? Please.
And please do not bother trying to tell I was influenced by anyone.

Where and when did Corey Booker "defend" Jared Kushner? What is the point of this OP outside of another blatant attack on a Democrat?
