We must remember that the VA and veteran's care could become a COUPON program under private health insurance if McConnell, Ryan, Trump, GOP and the Kochs have their way. The GOP plan is to have ALL health care fall under a voucher system to buy insurance on the private market.
So I wonder how many of our wounded vets have pre existing conditions?

(10,602 posts)IAVA claims to be non partisan. Based on how GOP treats vets that stance is puzzling.

(251 posts)that so many people believe private healthcare is somehow better than government healthcare like the VA and use that notion to push for privatization.
If private healthcare is so great, why is the infant mortality rate so high in the U.S.?
Not a month seems to go by without me hearing of some private practitioner bilking medical programs or re-using instruments or supplying opioids. In two recent examples, a Las Vegas doctor, Dipak Desai, (who recently died in prison) failed to properly sterilize instruments resulting in ~ 114 hepatitis C infections. Another here in Reno, Robert Rand, is accused in a pill mill ring run out of a local Ford dealership distributing opioids.
I retired from the Army in 2009 and am a disabled Veteran (fuck Trump btw) and the Reno VA has generally been a very good provider for me.

(10,602 posts)Almost all vets have pre existing conditions. So you can charge for insurance that pays no claims. The GOP just wants a Ponzi scheme from the way it all looks.
Most Americans are clueless about veterans issues really. Memorial Day is the only day anyone remembers anything. Beyond that very few people have anyone they know involved in these wars. With no drafter very few of the population serve in actuality. If there were a draft people would pay more attention.
And many vets in Congress are GOPPERS as well.

(11,119 posts)That's the problem with privatization! Emphasis will be shifted to profits and away from healthcare and other services. Privatization of the VA will result in actual DEATH PANELS!

(251 posts)the VA will be the final step in monetizing every aspect of war and conflict.
A privatized VA healthcare system has to have patients to turn a profit, therefore war and conflict will be the norm, if it isn't already.

(10,602 posts)In the later days of the Bush administration there was an idea floating around that even military medical teams in war zones would be privatized and not run by the military. The idea never got widespread coverage and it did not go any where.
I do not know if that idea is around to day. But what surprises me is that the VFW and American Legion are not going ballistic and going after anyone suggesting privatization. Also the general public may say they support vets, but I do not see any public outrage against privatizing the VA.
Back in the day any suggestion about screwing vets would have gotten the politician politically beheaded literally. Now it seems like these outrageous and sick suggestions do not get challenged.
The GOP talks so many totally unspeakable things that are now normal. You wonder what has happened to us as a nation.
The idea that that private insurance should take care of our veteran casualties really is a unthinkable as the Holocaust the idea is o evil on its face.
