The estimated 750,000 voters who do not have state-issued IDs in Pennsylvania surpasses President Obamas margin of victory in 2008. Many of the voters without ID are in poor and minority communities typically blocs that vote Democratic. Democrats worst fears appeared to be confirmed when the Republican leader of the state House, who helped shepherd the legislation onto the books, recently boasted that it will allow Mitt Romney win the Keystone State.

They will do anything to win. This includes disenfranchising poor and minority voters.

(4,252 posts)there should be an army of people to will research and cart people around and money contributed to help these people get ID.
Why isn't anyone organizing doing this?
There should be buses out there with big signs stopping at corners for people to go in and start getting help getting ID.. THere should be billboards. flyers put on every corner and store fronts.

(12,482 posts)that is precisely what it is about - how democrats and progressive groups like unions will have to fight it.

(103,856 posts)and they are wasting money filing lawsuits that will settle the issues probably around 2015.
This has been planned and discussed here (and other places) ad-nauseum since 2000.
It ALWAYS happens.. GOP gain control of state houses/governorships and the FIRST thing they do is to set out to make it harder for their opponents to vote next time.. It's called job-security.
We (as a group) stamp our feet, and scream bloody murder.. "It's not Faaaaaair".. and they reply..."So?"
and on election day, our people are challenged, refused voting opportunities ans the GOP ratchet up their control a bit more..
In Jan of 2011 when the horde of GOP folks stormed into office, our people on the ground should have been knocking on doors, visiting neighborhoods, armed with laptops, getting everyone the necessary paperwork, and then returning with buses & cars to transport these people to get IDs.
Extra money should have gone into this arena instead of patiently filing lawsuits that will be ignored by GOP. They are a lawless, rambunctious bunch who only cares about results.. They will fight in court later (they own most of the judges anyway)

(4,517 posts)Sadly I'm in CA, where are the DU'ers in this, why aren't the local DU'ers pulling together and pooling resources to help pull something like this together? Sometimes I'm annoyed that I live in CA, so I don't get the chance to actually try and arrange something like this.

(20,176 posts)I know a lot of lefty Democratic-voting politically-conscious Philly bartenders that work nights and spend their afternoons watching Animal Planet and getting high out of boredom. I think I can mobilize them as volunteers to help people fix ID issues. Most of them are underemployed college liberal-arts graduates so it's not like they'd be hard to train or easily confused.

(46,095 posts)1. Register individuals to vote
2. Get them approved voter ID.
Once you get a system in place, maybe you can preserve the voting block.

(761 posts)Not just for voting, but for every kind of social service as well. While springing this on the electorate so close to an election is unethical, as is not providing easy means for individuals to secure the i.d., to my mind requiring an i.d. makes sense. Granted, it's a bit more complicated when these matters are left to each state, rather than Federal policy, but the party should be using the same GOTV tactics to insure everyone has a proper id.

(12,461 posts)For the GOP, everyone having a voice in our government, should not be allowed. In Pennsylvania there has only been 18 cases of voter fraud in the last decade. Hardly a problem to prohibit minorities, the poor, the elderly, the disabled, our youth, from the ballot box.
Republican Legislator Admits Restrictive Voter ID Laws Are To Help Republicans Win...we are on to your game.

GOP are going out of their way to make sure Eligible citizens are denied the right to vote. 18 cases of voter fraud over the last ten years....how many elections would have swung the either way via those 18 votes? Its overkill, obstruction.
You have no qualms denying tens of thousands of people from voting...just to keep those 18 from voting too....Like chasing an ant with an anvil.

(12,482 posts)Recently, the states GOP House Majority Leader Mike Turzai boasted of the Voter-ID law as a Republican accomplishment that would have an effect in November, telling a party meeting: Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.
