73. The state AG's work at the will of the president
Tue May 30, 2017, 11:03 PM
May 2017

That is not to say that there are norms set up. But ever since Clinton took office the repigs have been fucking with them.

It used to be a norm that when a new president came in, the Ags would tender their resignation. The Ags, when Clinton came in, had been there since Reagan and refused. Forcing Clinton to fire them. Then Bush the lesser was elected I forgot off the top of my head if he fired them, but he had a different scandal- He fired at least 8 or 9 midterm. Most of those he fired refused to look into the bogus claims of voter fraud. Obama came in and fired them.

But always, whether they quit or were fired they were not let go immediately. They were replaced in stages; depending on what the case load was and if replacements were ready to take over. I think it took Obama 2 years to replace all the AGs.

Now we have trump. He asked that they tender their resignation. Bharara refused, forcing trump to fire him. Then we found out what Bharara was investigating Russian real estate fraud in NYC and money laundering.

Like I said previously, even though AGs were officially fired under other presidents, they were not out the door until replacements could be found and confirmed. trump still has not named any replacements for confirmation. So now we have over 40 acting AGs.

Either he thought it up all on his own with his very own brain, or someone told him and he believed it without checking with anyone else. "It" in this case being to approach the Russians about setting up a direct line contact with the Kremlin in the Russian embassy outside the security apparatus of the U.S. government. None of this set off an alarm for him? I look forward to his testimony under oath about who he talked to about this, and any written materials created for this hare-brained idea.

Tue May 30, 2017, 06:36 PM

This naive young man is 36 years old. People of his ideological stripe pardon his naivete, but expect 7-year-old black kids to keep it cool when confronting an out-of-control cop who's handcuffing them in the classroom.

I would love to see Kushner on the hot seat under questioning by either Sen. Franken or Sen. Warren. Both of them have a great talent for gently walking witnesses through their testimony right up to the point where the witness realizes - too late - that they've said too much.

Many of that ideological stripe also pardon white folk like me training rifles on Federal Agents from fortified positions as "protesting government overreach", but regard a teenage black girl striking out against an out of control cop who is at that moment choking the life out of her "resisting arrest". That dynamic in particular really pisses me off.

Once your air is cut off, ANYTHING you might do to the person doing it, up to and including killing them, badge or not, is self defense against not merely a threat, but an active and immediate assault on your life. No exceptions.

It's one thing to have to trust a cop not to shoot before it becomes necessary to preserve their life.
Another entirely to have to trust them to STOP choking me before it becomes necessary to preserve mine.

Yeah, I know, it's Wikipedia...but good enough to document this:
<snip>
In the summer of 2004, Charles Kushner was fined $508,900 by the Federal Election Commission for contributing to political campaigns in the names of his partnerships when he lacked authorization to do so.[12] In 2005, following an investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey,[13] U.S. Attorney Chris Christie negotiated a plea agreement with Kushner, under which he pleaded guilty to 18 counts of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering.[14] The witness-tampering charge arose from Kushner's act of retaliation against William Schulder, his sister Esther's husband, who was cooperating with federal investigators; Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, arranged to record an encounter between the two, and had the tape sent to his sister.[15][16][17][14] Kushner was sentenced to two years in prison[15] and served 14 months at Federal Prison Camp, Montgomery in Alabama[18][19] before being sent to a halfway house in Newark, New Jersey to complete his sentence.[18][19][20] He was released from prison on August 25, 2006.[21]

But I don't know. I think I know what they were up to, but I'm not the one in charge, and I don't know the legalities of it all.

I think that maybe in the end, it'll be financial corruption with Russia that gets them? Knowing how they are all about greed and money, I'm just thinking that that's where the proof of criminality lies.
