http://www.businessinsider.com/why-i-left-republican-party-register-democrat-2016-10"And no, it wasnt Trump who led him there, at least not directly. It was the GOPs craven, spineless reaction to Trump that drove him over the edge. In particular he calls out Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Paul Ryan for taking an action that risks the destruction of the American republic to advance their personal interests.
I can only conclude from the available evidence that they love their careers more than they love America. And they are why I quit the Republican Party this week."

(15,556 posts)He was never been much of a republican. Never heard him name call or deflect the argument to "Obama did it" or trash Dems. He was "the only republican I can stand" for a number of years.
I like people who come to our side. John Cole of Balloon-Juice.com is another. I only found him about the time he changed over and can't even imagine he was ever a republican.
They stayed with the party too long, but they got out. Kudos for that. (My Dad got out under Reagan who he hated. Maybe that's why I like republicans who turn rabid Dems. My Dad was one.)

(37,648 posts)Oh, now I've read the article. It's from October 2016. Rubio endorsed Trump.
Rubio has made a statement recently that people got what they voted for in Trump, and he didn't mean that as a compliment. But he's a weasel, anyway. HE voted for Trump, too.
He's right about Paul Ryan. Double weasel.
Kasich has stuck to his guns at being a regular, non-wacko Republican, willing to work with Democrats. Not a coincidence, I guess, that he was my favorite Republican running as a candidate. Not that there was much competition for quality candidates. It was Jeb Bush, Scott whatshisname, Rubio, Christie, Carson, Rand Paul...

(53,061 posts)CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article said Ted Cruz had called Donald Trump a "con artist." It was Marco Rubio who called him that. It's become difficult to keep track of which Trump endorsers said which things about Trump's manifest unfitness to be president.
