It IS a big deal on several levels. Kathy Griffith is a representative of the gay community and a known face of the left. She is inviting retaliation on a community. (disclosure) I am a huge fan of hers and agree with those who think she did the wrong thing. I'm glad to see the apology, which I see as sincere.

She is NOT a representative of the gay community, any more than are many other public figures who are supportive of gay rights, count gay individuals among her fans, have worked on charitable events to advance causes, etc. She is not herself gay and is not in any type of elected leadership position that I'm aware of. She is a comedian, often over-the-top in her act; she is not an official or even a pundit. And she's been very vocal in her opposition to Trump.

"inviting retaliation on a community" is a real stretch. Is she also inviting retaliation on women in general?

She has NOT lost her job on CNN. Maybe she will later. But at this time, "it has cost her a fun gig" is not a fact.
