A "Back Channel" would be something that you set up through the State Dept, just like the one Obama set up to talk to Iran, or RFK with Russia, that the Retrumplican apologists keep trotting out to try to justify the unjustifiable.

This was not set-up to begin a dialog. This was not set-up to establish diplomatic openings.

This was an attempt to get around The UNITED STATES National Security experts!!

It's a covert comm. There is only one reason to want to use Russian comms to communicate with the Kremlin in a secured system you think is safe from NSA decryption - you're hiding something.
