When a black man showed up at the airport with an AK-47 it sent off a chain reaction that anyone could have expected would end with his death. The police responded by shutting down traffic into the airport and the shoulder of the roads were lined with parked blinking police car lights. People have phone videos to show the unprecedented sight, which I fear, is just the start of a new norm.
Meanwhile, inside the airport a black man with an AK-47 was actually asking to be shot. It was quickly assessed that he was mentally distraught and they gave him orders to stand down, which he followed. He served in the military and it turns out the gun was a fake.
But, kudos to the Orlando police department.

No where in it did it mention skin color, however, you mention it twice. Just curious why the color of his skin makes such a difference in this situation.

(15,924 posts)That is something I didn't watch, so, I guess I missed it. It just seems odd that they (LEO) would mention his skin color twice like that makes much difference in the situation.
Ah well, perhaps in an alternate universe they would just say "Someone with a gun . . .", except I would hope that guns didn't exist there. At least in MY alternate world there wouldn't be a need for them.
