I think you are wrong about the politics. His base expects it, and frankly if his policies don't back it, then we should withdraw.

His base is not the majority but yeah...they'll be thrilled because they are angry and brain-dead.

Frankly I think he has a great shot at being reelected because his supporters are located in sufficient numbers in the right states. Maybe he would lose Florida next time, but what else is in play? Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania love this. He is not going to lose the Carolinas.

I think this is reflected in the Representative map as well. For his purposes he only needs to hold the House in 2018 and he will get everything he wants.

This presupposes that something so vile, so evil, comes up that even the Republicans have to step up to the plate (dead girl or live boy).

This is what the deplorables have been doing and this is what he does. There is no rhyme or reason. just a big f**k you. And, of course, turning everything that Obama did.

Some of it donations for re-election, which gets them their congressional salaries; some of it promises of future 'consultancies' and seats on boards; at the Trump level, probably literal bribes. They are confident the flood of fossil fuel money will fool enough gullible Republican voters to keep them in office, and maybe still in the congressional majority in 2018 (even if they can't manage that, they'll think it's the other Republican politicians who will suffer; their mindset includes thinking they personally deserve riches, and they'll get them).

They may be right about getting fools to vote for them again. The climate change denial industry has been very effective so far.

Assad in Syria now has an ally in 'burning it all down'!

The other country not signing - Nicaragua - was protesting the weaknesses of the Paris Agreement.
