Let's assume that there are some substantial ways in which he has broken laws, both in his business dealings and concerning the election. Now lets assume he is really tired of being president and would rather not be. We might find ourselves in a situation where he would rather resign, but is unable to do so because his leverage as president is the only thing stopping serious legal consequences for him. In that case, he will do everything possible to cling to power, simply to stop any sort of prosecution. I think this is a very dangerous situation. It plays out in similar ways in autocratic societies.
I think I would be willing to compromise by having all investigations against him dropped, in exchange for a resignation and him quietly retreating from public life. This is not how these things play out in real life however...
