https://www.yahoo.com/style/bar-fire-racist-classist-dress-code-214551970.htmlIs this dress code racist & classist? Or is it really just a dress code to exclude casual wear?

(279 posts)I think they probably started to just screw around a bit with the length but it's not racist or classist. They could have simplified it quite bit by just saying "dress like an adult."
I've been to bars where they have similar dress codes but they aren't posted anywhere. The doormen just don't let you in if you're wearing sweatpants, tank tops, jerseys, or things like that.

(11,203 posts)While certainly not a hole in the wall dive bar, it obviously caters to casually dressed patrons. Dress code violations galore are prominently and proudly displayed of their obviously preferred target customers.

Similar to workplace dress codes, so I don't get the racist/classist angle.

(13,340 posts)But classist? Lots of restaurants have dress standards that are classist, I guess. If I owned a restaurant, I would not allow any tank top without a covering shirt or jacket. Last think I wanna see when I am eating is someone's hairy pits.

Didn't you catch 2Chainz latest, wherein he's gallivanting around in flannel and a skull printed denim jacket? It's tight, lemmetellya!
Or how about Psy's latest, where Korea's most elite rapper (or was at one time, not sure about now!) was decked out in HOT urban gear straight out Gangnam, with his tie dyed floral print top and Nike's complemented by camo zipper pants? It's all the rage in Seoul.
...SMDH.

(928 posts)but there is something off there. As I looked at pics, checked the place out, something made me very uncomfortable with the dress code. The code seems specifically exclusionary. Why not just say collared shirts required? And you'll notice it's up to the doorman, even it you change your appearance after being told no entry, you still can't get in? That really makes me uncomfortable.
