Really, what is going to be left of this country. Something is going on, it's all getting far too weird.
Do you think Trump will still be President 4 years from now?

(67,112 posts)happening. I don't think I've ever been this uncomfortable in the US, in that I've never felt the level of incompetence to be so extreme, in fact in so many ways, so many levels.

(102,328 posts)but, though I'd always wanted kids, I'm thankful (increasingly each day) that I don't have them.
Not to suggest I'm not tremendously worried about everyone else's kids, I surely want to add... I AM!

(8,692 posts)and learning I was infertile was terribly distressing to me. But starting about five years ago it became a source of relief since I don't even want to contemplate what the world is going to look like in fifty years and I know there is nothing I could possibly do to shelter them from the forces that threaten to burn the west to the ground.

(4,673 posts)Republicans to finally be more afraid for the country than for themselves.
It will take a courageous one, then two, three ... then maybe the dam will finally break.

So 4 years of embarrassment and Hugh blood pressure it is.
TrollBuster9090
(5,955 posts)I'd prefer four years of him embarrassing the GOP, and four years of the GOP self-destructing by defending and covering up for 45.
However, I think you'll easily get to 67 by counting the Republican Senators who want to get rid of him because they think Pence would be less embarrassing, more of a puppet to the GOP legislative agenda, and more polished at being a politician.

(43,890 posts)So, no, we're going to have to deal with more than 4 years of Trump, even if he's gone before the end of the year.

So we can be rid of Trump, Pence, Ryan, McConnell in 2020.

(90,779 posts)He could easily be impeached and convicted, if the GOP so desired. He doesn't seem to have reached liability level to them yet.
Which actually scares me a little. Since Trump is an obvious liability to all things sane.

(90,779 posts)It happens, even when people think it isn't.
The Patriot Act is still around and it is still bad - but it is more or less accepted as normal now.
Private prisons, confiscation of property, even from the innocent...still happening.
Voter suppression being made "legal" by the states through gerrymandering and ID laws. Sure, people fight back but it hasn't stopped them from trying.
Make it legal, and those not affected tend to accept it.
The same can happen with what is going on under Trump/GOP now.
The more bad people accept, the easier to do worse.

(14,565 posts)Incumbents are almost never defeated when their party has been in power only one term. Jimmy Carter is the only exception in more than a century.
Trump inherited an economy on the verge of upswing. Unfortunately, he'll receive undeserved credit. Today the stock market reached new highs.
The scandalous stuff is no doubt legit, and worse than we believe, but those remedies are extremely low percentage. I default to big picture logic. We're stuck.

(13,109 posts)I've given up predicting. I failed to predict Trump. However if the "Republican leaders" will not act to impeach a president who is pretty clearly in cahoots with a at least partly hostile foreign government, then it is quite possible we will see eight years of this idiot and possibly many more years of republican-fascist rule.
The question is what do we do about that?
What can we do about that?

(7,581 posts)There are already mainstream stories that this isnt what he thought it would be, he is isolated, emotionally withdrawn, even Joe Scarborough casually said Trump,is said to be eating way too much. Haha.
He is a spoiled, obese, 70 year old man who many who know say has Alzheimers or dementia. He is not having fun. I give him until the end of the summer before he either resigns blaming "crying Schumer" and fake media for blocking all his great plans, or he strokes the hell out.
I am not wishing this, as he must have some people who love him, but I am predicting this.

(22,976 posts)His team is lawyering up for a long, pitched battle. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. But with #45, "normal" procedures don't apply. A majority of Republicans in Congress will have to openly turn on him, and I can't foresee that happening, unless he turned out to be a pedophile or something equally shocking.
In the meantime, the RW media-machine is cranking overtime to keep polishing the absolute turd that is #45 and his cohorts. There is a small chance that he will crack under the prolonged strain, making his removal medically necessary.
Even if he's removed from office, the very emotionally disturbed SNOWFLAKE won't shut up, he'll be whining to the media 24/7.

(67,112 posts)Republicans won't let impeachment get through the House, House members are more secure to vote against because of their gerrymandered districts. Any Republican that votes to impeach him may as well resign because they would guarantee themselves getting primaried out the next election.

(11,686 posts)I mean most of his administration is on his side and will just continue without him. I fear that if he manages 8 years then there will more than likely never be another election. Dictators do not allow elections and if they do they do not mean a damn thing at all ( look at the elections they have in Russia. ) Unless we can take the entire administration down we are screwed.

(14,299 posts)Hoping the D's take the House in 2018. That will crush Trump's soul. Senate is far less in play, but a shift of even a few seats would be great.
Maybe, just maybe, the D's take the House in 2018, shift control of the Senate significantly, and Donnie decides to give up and go home.
