"Walmart is asking employees to deliver packages on their way home from work."

Can TrumpLand get any better??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BENTONVILLE, ARK. — Walmart’s newest tactic in its fight against online giant Amazon: enlisting its employees to deliver online orders on their way home from work.
The idea, Walmart executives said Thursday, is to cut costs on the so-called last-mile of deliveries, when packages are driven to customers’ homes, often the most expensive part of the fulfillment process.
“It just makes sense: We already have trucks moving orders from fulfillment centers to stores for pickup,” Marc Lore, chief executive of Walmart’s e-commerce business and the founder of Jet.com, said in a blog post Thursday afternoon. “Those same trucks could be used to bring ship-to-home orders to a store close to their final destination, where a participating associate can sign up to deliver them to the customer’s house.”.......
Employees will be paid extra for the voluntary program, and offered overtime pay as necessary to make the deliveries, Walmart spokesman Ravi Jariwala said Thursday.
Can you imagine living out in Walmart Land somewhere and having unidentified cars driving up and down your driveway every evening?
No, I meant like Dominos does (in some places). This could put a heck of a lot of wear and tear on employees' cars. I wouldn't put it past Walmart to use Uber for this, though.
But I have to say, what's so evil about a voluntary program that follows applicable labor laws? If they were making them or not paying them then, yeah, that would be bad.
Again, I fail to see the cause for outrage. As you mentioned, details are not known. With so much crap in which we have actual facts to hate Walmart over, this just seems like an outrage looking for a trigger. Oh well, have fun with it.
And why pay the employees for driving home, when they could just pay for the time they divert from their regular route for the delivery?
Yeah, someone is going to get screwed here.
if you do not "volunteer." As soon as trumps rules for cheating workers out of money and no regulations to work them over time with no extra pay and no safety rules they are going to jump one it. I have worked for them and they are horrible. I have some friends who worked for them also and say the same thing. Walmart is not as bad off as they say. They can damn well afford what they have been doing with no fucking problem. Walmart is a very very strong supporter of trump who is making what they have wanted to do to employees legal. Walmart is just fucking evil.
Because the Chinese are refusing to work for the slave like wages that Wal Mart demands. And China is working to develop a middle class. A party controlled, not democratic middle class. But a middle class none the less.
Look for Vietnam and Miramar labels to become more common.
Out the person who is fulfilling that job.
It's a dual hit - pile more on "associates" who are paid less, while reducing hours of drivers who are likely paid more.
Vile.
