what to do about real fake news?

I'm sure this has come up before, but has a list of "best practices" been developed about dealing with the many forms of bullshit that are out there? I'm mostly focused on the newer forms - not so much Fox News and AM radio that have their way down to a science.

One thing I've thought about is that some of the pro-Trump people in my social media circle (that I've managed not to block or unfriend yet) still post and forward such crap that is false to anyone who's willing to turn on their brain. On one hand, there's the temptation to just ignore it b/c you know they'll never change their minds. I'm just not convinced that arguing with friends - or strangers - on the internet is all that enjoyable or productive. On the other hand is a desire to educate, debunk, etc., as well as try to do damage control (to at least make them think twice before forwarding, or for anyone on the fence that might be following along to see a different perspective - including young people that don't have fully formed views and get info thru memes and sound bytes and the like).

Thanks.

Rural working class folk that is.

We all seem to have this false notion that we can change one mind at a time, or convert folks one issue at a time, and that demonstrates a lack of awareness.

We need to put ourselves in the minds of those we wish to convert. We can no more talk someone into switching parties than you can get an alcoholic to quit drinking or someone addicted to drugs to stop doing drugs.

If you've ever dealt with either (alcoholic or addict) then you know that they'll never quit until you remove them from their social situation where the substances are available.

If you are a working class conservative, all of your friends are too, the same issues resonate with the entire group.

We aren't gonna talk them out of having friends, we aren't going to make them see the error of their ways. We especially are not going to convince anyone out in the open on social media.

We can point out the fallacies, but don't expect it to make a difference in which party they vote for.
