So maybe the most amazing thing that occurred Thursday wasn't that President Trump pulled out of the Paris climate deal. It was the response from the corner office: A string of CEOs loudly voiced strong opposition to his action.
"It's an absolutely bizarre and unprecedented moment in American history," presidential historian Douglas Brinkely told CNNMoney. He called the reaction a sign of just how damaged the Trump brand is in the eyes of corporate America.
"Donald Trump is such a pariah figure that companies want zero association with his brand," Brinkley said. "He's championing dirty air and polluted water. He's anti-science. Why would a Fortune 500 CEO want to be associated with that?"
When even big business starts turning away, you know the Republicans are done.

(37,158 posts)...it's a hopeful sign (and geez, what state do we have to be in when THAT's the case!).
The Republicans aren't done until there's a solid democratic majority in place, in congress, in the statehouses, and for the presidency.

(938 posts)You're right. I lost count of how many times I have heard the Republicans are done. By hook or crook, they still control more federal and state levers of power than anyone else. We're just lucky they are often incompetent.
I had such hope that my red state would finally get at least a significant blue surge, but no... Too many non-voters didn't care yet. Those are the ones we have to figure out how to motivate.

(2,095 posts)This is exactly right. Every time someone gets all angsty about "How do we appeal to the white male vote?!?" I'm wondering why we would even bother. Why don't we go after the nearly 1/2 of the voting public that doesn't bother to vote? If we get even a fraction of non-voters we'll be fine. Instead we're always chasing the elusive working class white man. How about instead we have policies that appeal to non-voters and maybe some WWC come along of their own accord. And those that don't? Screw 'em. I'm sick and tired of their whining. You know what? My life didn't turn out the way I expected it to either. I'm A LOT poorer than I thought I'd be at this point. I'll never have enough to retire. I'm going to have to work right up to lunch on the day of my funeral. I live paycheck to paycheck, and God forbid something unexpected occurs because then even that goes out the window. But you know what all this "economic anxiety" didn't do? It didn't turn me into a big flaming racist tool. It also didn't suck 50 IQ points off me. Some of the WWC are just assholes, and if Democrats want to make the tent big enough to include them, they won't need to increase the size of the tent, because I'll go out the other side.
{Sigh} Well, somehow I managed to go off on a tangent when all I really wanted to say was, "Great post. Welcome to DU." I'm not quite sure what happened. I've been really angry since November, even before that, really.

(938 posts)Dang... You didn't go on a tangent at all. You just nailed it exactly where we need it! VERY well said.
And welcome to DU.

(128,844 posts)for his tackiness and very obvious "wannabe" persona. They only tacitly supported him for the same reason as the rest of the GOP - to have a mindless robot able to operate a pen to sign the legislation they wanted.
