5 killed in shooting near Orlando; shooter also dead, sheriff's office says

Five employees were killed in a shooting at Fiamma, a business on North Forsyth Road near Hanging Moss Road near Orlando, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning.

The shooter — a former “disgruntled employee” who was fired in April — then killed himself, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said. The shooter had previously been accused of battering a fellow employee.

Four people — three males and a female — were dead at the scene, and another male victim died at the hospital, Demings said. The shooting appears to have nothing to do with terrorism.

The shooting happened in multiple locations at the business, Demings said. It is unclear how the shooter, who has not been identified, got into the building. There were about 12 employees inside the building at the time of the shooting.

Yes, it had everything to do with terrorism. The employees that saw this were probably filled with terror. It's just domestic terrorism we've become accustomed to and numb towards. It's just become an accepted part of life for us.

That people are terrified when a crime is being committed isn't a qualifier for something to be "terrorism". While acts of terrorism are aimed at groups of individuals, the message is intended to be aimed at the target populace as a whole. In a way, true terrorism uses discrete actions of limited scope & means as a symbolic aggression towards a larger population... because acting against an entire populace would be logistically impossible.

This guys actions were just pissed off retribution.
Calling it terrorism is being intentionally dishonest.

If someone comes into a workplace and kills people because they were fired and disgruntled, we'd call it a tragedy and probably go right back to our normal business.

If that same person, instead of being fired, came into the same workplace and killed the same people while shouting "Allahu Akbar", all of a sudden it's elevated to the status of terrorism. The same people would be dead; we'd have the same traumatized survivors.

The only difference is, all the same old bigoted players would now call for banning Muslims from our country. And we'd be gnashing our teeth over it for days. And that there is such a difference is a load of crap.
