I predict that when 45 resigns, it will be without prior notice or inclination.

To limit fanfare and minimize the spectacle, I think his resignation will come out of the blue. Heck, he might not even be the one to deliver the message. It might just be stated in a daily presser or a tweet. He's incredibly impulsive.

He'll sign resignation papers in private with Pence, receive a blanket pardon From Pence before anyone has a chance to object, and then the nation will be notified in as brief a manner as possible. It will be nothing like Nixon's resignation.

him, perhaps even Pence, prior to resigning.

I am not sure if Pence will pardon him though. It would be his head on the chopping block. It killed any chance for Ford to get reelected and that pardon did not look like self dealing. A Pence one would most certainly look that way.

Maybe Trump will sign a pardon order for himself. If you can have preemptive pardons, when does it stop anyway.

I do agree with you that it will come out of the blue. A question becomes what is the Constitutional process of a resignation. Is Trump merely stating he quits sufficient? Like everything else he does, it may have gray areas that could lead to challenging it later.

Rumor suggests that NY may indict (or has indicted) Trump for state charges, probably related to his financial dealings. However, I think they can't try him while he is President, so that may encourage him to hang on.

What excuse would he give? Surely he wouldn't admit wrongdoing nor even any possibility that the FBI has anything on him.

And if he gripes about the toxic atmosphere (or the disaster that Obama left for him), then he's admitting that The Dealmaker is unable to drain the swamp.

Curiouser and curiouser...

not a strong skill of Twitler.

I guess if he is truly done, he might listen to someone with a plan and this would likely be their plan. He would unleash a twitter tirade, in spite of the plan, to make sure everyone knows he is great and his detractors are liars.

An alternative that might happen is that he quits on Twitter and refuses to actually resign. I can just see his spokespeople explaining that tweet away.

Don't go away mad, Little Donnie, just go away.

...but he does hide embarrasing shit for as long as possible. He can't possibly be enjoying this farce anymore, so yeah, I could see his resigning in the middle of a golf weekend, and letting everyone wake up to a (pre-pardoned) President Pence on a Monday.

But I keep being significantly wrong about him. He obviously needs the Executive Privilege to shield the family business, so perhaps he'll stick it out a long while by just retreating further from his duties and becoming an absentee president.

I guess I just can't envision that with his personality type. I think he will go down kicking and screaming and whining "poor me, so unfair". I think he will make it a huge spectacle.

He is a con man at heart, a carnival barker, and loves attention, any attention.

I hate to say it, but I think this is a real possibility. Impeachment or Article 25 will set off a shit storm from him. If he totally loses it, we can hope for a commitment to a mental institution with no phone.

But then we have Pence.

His ego is too big. His sycophant followers are too rabid. His delusions of grandeur are too real and his denial is too great.

His leaving office, anytime before 2021, is not likely to go smoothly...
