Alone in the White House in recent days, President Trump frustrated and defiant has been spoiling for a fight, according to his confidants and associates.
Glued even more than usual to the cable news shows that blare from the televisions in his private living quarters, or from the 60-inch flat screen he had installed in his cramped study off the Oval Office, he has fumed about fake news. Trump has seethed as his agenda has stalled in Congress and the courts. He has chafed against the pleas for caution from his lawyers and political advisers, tweeting whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
And on Thursday, the president will come screen-to-screen with the former FBI director he fired, James B. Comey, who has consumed, haunted and antagonized him by overseeing an expanding Russia investigation that the president slammed as a witch hunt.
--------
Hes infuriated at a deep-gut, personal level that the elite media has tolerated [the Russia story] and praised Comey, former House speaker Newt Gingrich said. Hes not going to let some guy like that smear him without punching him as hard as he can.

Hang onto your hats, folks. I don't know how this is going to go down, but I have a feeling we're going to see something the likes of which we've never seen before with Trump live tweeting during Comeys testimony.

(18,748 posts)Running around, but letting that freaking weirdo do what he does. It's amazing how much of this is allowed. The threats & the tantrums & the lies. Anyway, aren't you glad you and I don't have to put up with that on a daily basis? They couldn't pay me enough.

I just quit my job.. my trumper-boss made every day HELL. Ever'body walked on egg shells, catering to that freak's moods & insanity. The day he HUMILIATED a coworker(Latino)I was DONE.
Although it was more $ than I'd made in years, after 60 days,of his crazy, & THAT happened, I gave notice. Boss was a sick, wealthy, abusive bastard. No amount of money was enough.
I'm unemployed, & FREE. The Universe will provide, cuz I know to keep my Heart in the Right place.
Yes! Not enough money in the World! 💖

Undoubtedly Trump thinks he is smarter than Comey, but I'm pretty sure Comey will have the last laugh.

(3,702 posts)last word with Lawrence O'Donnell, but they were talking about why trump didn't push executive privilege. The guest said that it is because trump is looking for a fight...he wants to go to battle against Comey, because he has always "won" and a court battle over privilege would just stretch out the time until what Trump sees as his victory.
So when I read about the live tweeting that could occur Thursday I was thinking that guest was spot on. Trump doesn't see this as an investigation - he sees it as some type of reality show match up. He knows his base is going to cheer him on and boo and hiss at Comey and he needs that to feed his sad little ego.
He has no idea what this is all really about...he just sees it as one more person being "mean" to him and he needs to get revenge. He is such a sad petty man

(23,302 posts)He's not my favorite guy but he's no idiot. AND, he's probably got rock solid legal counsel advising him. He'll go just far enough to sent FF45 into a Twitter freaking meltdown but not so far as to appear pissed off and petty. This has the potential to be an EPIC tweet storm.

(5,810 posts)do to distract or distort what's happening all around him. The White House is in flames, his whole administration is running around with their hair on fire. A saying I heard a few thousand times fits this situation. They don't know whether to sh*t or wind their watches.
I think making guesses, educated or not, is kinda fun. Definitely fun to poke fun at tRump. But I think we're just gonna have to watch and see how this plays out. And then we'll have to see where it all leads. I am pretty sure most of us want tRump gone. Depart from me, I know ye not! We really need to hope that cooler heads prevail and proceed with caution so that tRump can't be in a position to pardon those around him. He needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for every single crime he committed. While he is the President in office, he could pardon. And then there is the matter of Pence pardoning him, as happened with Nixon. Do we really want to see tRump get off scot free? I think not. Humiliation is not enough. He must be punished.
So let us hope that things ignite tomorrow and Thursday to get the ball rolling for trump's removal, along with a whole bunch of other bad apples. Meanwhile---pass the popcorn. Things are starting to look and sound real interesting.
